NFRC launches free BSI access and private medical insurance to enhance member skills and wellbeing
The National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) has unveiled two significant new benefits aimed at bolstering member competencies and improving workforce well-being. These developments reflect NFRC's ongoing commitment to enhancing professional standards within the roofing and cladding sector.
One of the key benefits introduced is complimentary digital access to a selection of 16 British Standards Institution (BSI) publications. This initiative allows NFRC members to download vital resources, including pivotal documents such as BS 5534, BS 6229, and BS 8000 directly from the NFRC member support area. Richard Miller, NFRC's director of membership, highlighted the substantial value of these publications, noting, “Access to these resources, completely free of charge, means a cost saving for our members whilst injecting a substantial investment into their learning and professional development.” Such resources are vital tools for ensuring compliance with UK building regulations and health and safety legislation, promoting high standards in craftsmanship and installation practices across the industry.
In addition to educational resources, NFRC has launched a Private Medical Insurance (PMI) scheme, administered by ECIS, which promises rapid access to specialist medical treatment for members. This initiative aims to reduce absenteeism and foster morale among the workforce, with Miller asserting, “NFRC is pleased to provide our members a way to protect their biggest assets – their workforce.” With over 40 years of experience in the construction sector, ECIS has designed the PMI scheme to offer competitive premiums and a range of health services tailored specifically to the needs of NFRC member businesses.
The PMI scheme includes 24/7 GP services, mental health support, and access to specialist treatments, which are crucial in maintaining a productive and engaged workforce. As the demand for swift healthcare solutions continues to rise, NFRC's provision of such a service not only enhances employee well-being but also addresses broader industry concerns regarding health and productivity.
Bob Richardson, NFRC's head of technical and training, emphasised the significance of these new benefits, stating, “This is a significant additional value to NFRC membership.” With a robust library of technical documents and resources at their fingertips, members can stay abreast of the latest developments in their field, thereby fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional excellence.
Moreover, the NFRC Knowledge Hub, which offers a wealth of technical and training materials, further underlines the federation’s dedication to supporting its members. Beyond the recently introduced benefits, the hub provides essential guidance on sustainability initiatives and best practices that are increasingly critical in today’s construction landscape. Members are encouraged to utilise the hub's comprehensive resources, which include practical support on the implementation of net-zero goals within their operations.
In an era where the pressures of the construction industry are ever-present, NFRC's strategic initiatives serve to equip its members with the necessary tools and support to navigate these challenges effectively. By fostering a culture of competence and well-being, NFRC not only accelerates the professional development of its members but also reinforces the integrity and quality of the roofing and cladding industry as a whole.
As NFRC continues to evolve its membership offerings, it underscores the importance of collaboration and shared resources in maintaining high standards. Members are invited to engage with both the BSI publication access and the PMI scheme to maximise the benefits of their affiliation with NFRC, ultimately contributing to a safer, more knowledgeable, and better-supported workforce across the roofing sector.
