APM launches new regional network in Ireland to boost project management
The Association for Project Management (APM), which is based in London and recognised as the chartered body for project management, has officially announced the formation of its Regional Network in the Republic of Ireland. This new initiative is part of APM's broader strategy to enhance its international presence, particularly following a recent network launch in Dubai, UAE.
The growth of the project management sector in Ireland has been notable in recent years, closely linked to the nation's economic development and the extensive array of public and private infrastructure projects currently underway across various regions. In response to this expanding landscape, APM's Regional Network aims to enhance professional development and support growth in Ireland through numerous activities and events. These include Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions, workshops, networking events, and conferences, allowing members to engage with each other and share expertise.
In addition to professional growth opportunities, the network will also provide volunteer roles focused on education outreach, corporate engagement, and emerging professional activities. APM is collaborating with various leading companies across sectors such as finance, information technology, construction, and pharmaceuticals to foster industry collaboration and facilitate knowledge exchange in Ireland.
Professor Adam Boddison OBE, the Chief Executive Officer of APM, expressed enthusiasm about this expansion, stating, "We are delighted to launch our Regional Network in Ireland, making it easier for project management professionals here to broaden and deepen their skills in the sector and to achieve Chartered status within the profession." He further noted that APM intends to work alongside key stakeholders in Ireland, including government bodies, to advocate for the inclusion of Chartership as a standard requirement for significant public projects. This initiative aims to enhance the overall project management process and facilitate more successful project outcomes.
The launch of APM’s Regional Network aligns strategically with the Irish government's 'Project Ireland 2040' initiative, which integrates the National Planning Framework (NPF) and the National Development Plan (NDP) aimed at steering the country's development trajectory. The initiative outlines a commitment of €165 billion towards vital sectors, including public infrastructure, energy, transport, and construction.
Anthony McCarthy has been appointed as the lead for the Ireland Regional Network. He is a Director at Cogent Associates, a Dublin-based construction and property consultancy. Supporting him will be Ricardo Santos, Programme Manager with Iarnród Éireann, who takes on the role of Deputy Lead. Together, they will spearhead efforts to promote local engagement and uphold professional standards within the project management community across various sectors.
Mr. McCarthy remarked on the burgeoning potential for project management careers in Ireland, stating, “Project management, in its many forms, in Ireland is going from strength to strength and offers a varied and rewarding career for professionals across a broad swathe of sectors. Myself and Ricardo are really excited about playing our part with the Irish Regional Network of the APM in contributing to and developing ever higher professional standards within the project management sector in Ireland.”
This new network represents a significant development for project management professionals in the Republic of Ireland, creating a fundamental resource for those seeking to enhance their capabilities and engage more deeply within their field.
