About the role

The Brand and Creative Officer is responsible for ensuring that all RCR assets, design work, events, publications and commissioned creative work support and strengthen the RCR brand. They will act as a brand champion, working with colleagues across the organisation to embed the RCR brand strategy, values, positioning, tone of voice, messaging and visual identity in all that we do.

The postholder will combine creative thinking with effective project and stakeholder management, taking projects from brief through to delivery and ensuring high-quality, engaging and consistent outputs across a range of channels.

Responsibilities

Creative and Brand:

  • Act as the brand guardian and the ‘go-to’ person on all aspects of our brand, including brand positioning, values, messaging, tone of voice and visual identity.
  • In conjunction with the Brand Manager, build and manage a roster of agencies, ensuring that they deliver high-quality work, on time and to budget, and acting as the day-to-day contact for suppliers.
  • Manage creative and brand projects from brief through to delivery, coordinating stakeholders, suppliers, timescales and budgets and ensuring agreed objectives and quality standards are met.
  • Work with any contracted agencies to ensure that all our publications, reports, templates and assets are engaging, support the brand strategy and position the RCR effectively.
  • Develop and contribute creative ideas and solutions that bring the RCR brand to life, respond effectively to communications challenges and increase engagement with our audiences.
  • Identify new ways of building our brand and increasing brand awareness, tracking engagement.
  • Support teams across the organisation to ensure that all RCR assets and products support and build the RCR brand.
  • Build effective relationships with stakeholders across the organisation, understanding their requirements and providing clear brand and creative advice. Influence and, where appropriate, constructively challenge colleagues, partners, agencies and suppliers to ensure work supports and strengthens the RCR brand.
  • Advise on any partnerships developed in terms of branding, ensuring that any such partnership supports our brand, strategic priorities and values.
  • Manage the use of RCR branded templates, including issuing guidance or offering advice as appropriate.
  • Track brand engagement and report on KPIs as required.

Events:

  • Be the ‘go-to’ person for the creation of infographics, video content and photographs to support RCR engagement strategies – whether marketing campaigns, public affairs campaigns or event promotion – working collaboratively across the team.
  • Create and adapt high-quality, accessible and on-brand visual assets and templates using Canva and other appropriate design software for a range of channels and audiences.
  • Build and maintain a digital bank of visual images, with clear GDPR and permissions, to improve the impact of our assets and publications (including digital).

Asset Creation:

  • Support all RCR events as required, with signage and branding support, ensuring that they promote and build brand engagement.
  • Ensure that opportunities to build engagement via events are maximised – including pre-event communications, social engagement on the day and follow-up communications.
  • Ensure that any brand partnerships work to build engagement with the RCR brand and maximise opportunities to build engaged audiences, with clear calls to action.

General:

  • Work across the marketing function to support where needed.
  • Support digital engagement as and when required.
  • Work collaboratively across the directorate and organisation.
  • Plan, prioritise and manage multiple projects and competing deadlines, adapting plans where required while maintaining quality and delivery.
  • Undertake such duties appropriate to the level of the postholder’s qualifications and experience as may be required by the RCR from time to time.
  • Maintain and manage records in accordance with RCR’s data protection policy and guidance.
  • Maintain documentation on all activities carried out

  • Brand Manager reporting to and working with.
  • Brand and content teams working with on brand collateral 

External Working Relationships:

  • Agencies and other suppliers as relevant

Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes

Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Strong understanding of brand with experience applying brand strategy, tone of voice and visual identity, with experience maintaining brand consistency across multiple channels and touchpoints
  • Experience managing brand development and visual identity, including hierarchy of sub-brands.
  • Experience of working with design agencies to create assets, giving feedback and ensuring high-quality work on time and within budget.
  • Experience managing creative, brand or communication projects from brief through to delivery, including managing timelines, stakeholders, suppliers and competing priorities.
  • High level of proficiency in Canva, with the ability to create and adapt professional, engaging and on-brand assets and templates for a range of channels and audiences.
  • Relevant software systems knowledge and experience, ideally including understanding of Google Analytics, ability to undertake internet searches, and use of CRM databases.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software including InDesign.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Accurate use and understanding of English.
  • High level oral and written communication skills, including ability to explain complex issues clearly in writing and orally and ability to adapt style to different audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build and sustain effective relationships with a diverse range of colleagues, partners and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Self-starter, confident to initiate and progress work, knowing when to consult or involve others.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise and deliver multiple projects and activities simultaneously, managing deadlines, stakeholders and resources to achieve high-quality outcomes.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Clear and analytical thinker with the ability to exercise sound initiative, judgement and discretion and think through issues to offer practical solutions to protect and strengthen the RCR brand.
  • Good eye for design and understanding of design principles with the ability to solve creative challenges.
