UK Energy Storage Association issues GivEnergy administration guidance

ESA publishes consumer FAQs as residential battery supplier GivEnergy enters administration.

The UK Energy Storage Association (ESA) has published a set of consumer frequently asked questions after residential battery supplier GivEnergy Ltd entered administration on 9 April 2026. The FAQs address the most common concerns raised by homeowners, installers, and wholesalers following the appointment of Chris Brooksbank of CB Business Recovery as administrator.

The ESA confirmed that installed GivEnergy batteries should continue to operate as normal, with local safety systems and cell management functions unaffected by the administration. The guidance explains what homeowners should do if their battery develops a fault, how to access ongoing support through their original installer, and what is likely to happen to manufacturer warranties now that GivEnergy Ltd has ceased to trade. The association has also addressed the separate status of GivEnergy Commercial Limited and GivEnergy Software Limited, which are not part of the administration.

The ESA said it has been working closely with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero on the specific facts of the case and on the broader question of service continuity in the event of future failures in the energy storage sector. The association has said that GivEnergy's difficulties are not indicative of the wider market, which it describes as a growth sector with multiple active suppliers.
