Stephanie Owen appointed permanent president and CEO of NWFA after interim tenure

The National Wood Flooring Association has appointed Stephanie Owen as president and CEO, solidifying her leadership after serving as interim CEO earlier this year, and focusing on education, member engagement, and industry growth.

The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) has appointed Stephanie Owen as its new President and CEO, marking a significant leadership transition for the organisation. This appointment follows an extensive search process overseen by a volunteer selection committee and received unanimous approval from the NWFA Board of Directors' Executive Committee. Owen had been serving as interim CEO prior to the appointment, a role she assumed following the departure of former President and CEO Michael Martin earlier this year.

Owen has a long-standing relationship with the NWFA, having joined the organisation in 2015 and contributed in multiple capacities, including Education and Member Engagement Director, Vice President of Education, and Executive Director of the Education and Research Foundation. She is credited with spearheading key initiatives such as the development of the NWFA’s online university and the inaugural Leadership Development Summit. Holding a Bachelor of Science in Communications and a Master of Science in Education from Missouri Baptist University, Owen brings a strong educational background coupled with extensive industry knowledge.

In her own words, Owen described the appointment as "an incredible honour," expressing enthusiasm for leading the NWFA into its next chapter. She emphasised her commitment to expanding the organisation’s influence, delivering tangible support to its members, and continuing to elevate the wood flooring industry. Owen’s deep understanding of the craft and her prior leadership roles within NWFA underscore her suitability to guide the association forward.

The leadership change follows the resignation of Michael Martin, who stepped down in March 2025 after over a decade at the helm. Martin was recognised for his tenure marked by significant membership growth, enhanced marketing efforts, and increased media exposure for the association on local, national, and international levels. His departure initiated the interim period during which Owen provided steady leadership amidst the transition.

The NWFA, which recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, remains a pivotal organisation within the hardwood flooring industry, dedicated to setting standards, promoting education, and fostering a vibrant community of professionals. The association’s anniversary event underlined its ongoing commitment to innovation, quality craftsmanship, and adaptability in a changing industry landscape—values that Owen has demonstrated throughout her tenure.

With Owen’s appointment, the NWFA is positioned to continue building on its legacy of advocacy and professional development. Her elevation to the top leadership role reflects a broader trend within trade organisations to prioritise education, member engagement, and leadership development as pillars for sustained industry growth.
