Royal Society of Chemistry Opens PFAS Start-Up Accelerator Cohort
The Royal Society of Chemistry has opened applications for the 2026 cohort of its Change Makers accelerator programme, with a sharp focus on start-ups developing solutions to the challenge of PFAS — per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, also known as "forever chemicals." The application deadline is 17 April 2026.
Change Makers is an enterprise support initiative designed to help deep-tech chemistry start-ups and science innovators overcome barriers to growth, including access to funding, professional services, and market validation. The 2026 cohort targets those working in environmental chemistry, water treatment, advanced materials and sustainable manufacturing. Applications are sought from companies and spin-outs developing technologies for PFAS monitoring, destruction, and the identification of safer alternatives.
Dr Ben Voysey, Entrepreneurship Lead for the initiative, noted that while awareness of the harmful effects of PFAS on human health and the environment is increasing, the development of innovative technologies in this area remains at an early stage. He described the Change Makers ecosystem as a strong, collaborative community offering practical support for those turning ideas into real-world impact.
Alongside the main Change Makers cohort, the RSC is also running a Change Makers Spotlight Prize as part of its Emerging Technologies Competition, with a £2,000 prize within a £50,000 overall pot. The submission deadline for that category closed 13 April 2026.
