Naec to unveil new strategies for boosting Nigeria’s energy investments and sustainability

The Nigerian Association of Energy Correspondents will present a detailed report at its 2025 conference, highlighting investment opportunities and growth in Nigeria's energy sector, with input from government and international stakeholders.

The Nigerian Association of Energy Correspondents (NAEC) is poised to unveil a comprehensive report focusing on Nigeria's energy investment opportunities, regulatory reforms, and stakeholder collaboration during its annual conference, set under the theme: “Nigeria’s Energy Future: Exploring Opportunities, Addressing Risks for Sustainable Growth.” Scheduled for October 9, 2025, at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos, the hybrid event aims to engage both physical attendees and virtual participants.

Mr. Ugo Amadi, Chairman of NAEC, underscored the relevance of the 2025 conference, noting that it aims to address ongoing transformations within Nigeria’s energy sector amid global trends towards sustainable energy solutions. Featured at the event will be distinguished figures such as Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), and Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), along with several other prominent industry leaders. Furthermore, international energy organisations such as the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) are expected to participate, promising a comprehensive dialogue that traverses national and international energy interests.

The conference's planning committee, led by Mr. Adeola Yusuf, aims to create a platform for stakeholders—including policymakers, investors, and industry experts—to delve into critical topics shaping Nigeria's energy landscape. Key discussions will encompass the evaluation of current energy policies, particularly the implications of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) on investment landscapes, and the roles of various regulatory bodies in enhancing investor confidence. By addressing these focal points, the conference seeks not only to unlock investment but also to champion sustainable growth and innovation within the sector.

Significantly, one of the main sessions will be dedicated to examining financing strategies and investment opportunities related to gas. Panellists will analyse the current investment climate, infrastructure development, and innovative funding mechanisms, including Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). This focus aligns with broader national interests, particularly as the Nigerian government reiterates its commitment to harness gas as a pivotal energy source for driving economic growth and sufficiency.

Dr. Yusuf also noted the conference's commitment to spotlighting the integration of renewable energy solutions and technological advancements in energy efficiency. Sessions on “The Power Solution: Energy Infrastructure, Technology and Integration” will critically assess post-privatisation financial challenges, further evaluating how renewable energy can be effectively integrated into Nigeria's existing energy framework.

In addition to the NAEC conference, the energy landscape in Nigeria is rife with pertinent events focused on innovation and investment opportunities. The Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) 2025, scheduled for February 24–27, 2025, promises to convene key international investors under the slogan “Bridging Continents: Connecting Investors Worldwide with Africa's Energy Potential.” This summit is designed to foster collaboration across sectors, attracting global stakeholders to Nigeria's extensive oil, gas, and renewable energy opportunities.

Moreover, the Nigeria Clean Energy Expo (NgCEE) is expected to convene in March 2025, highlighting the transition towards clean energy technologies and solutions. The convergence of these events signals a growing recognition of the necessity for diverse energy solutions in Nigeria, accentuating the role of stakeholders across various segments of the energy industry.

Given these developments, the NAEC's conference emerges as a vital component of Nigeria's energy discourse, providing an essential platform to deliberate on unlocking Nigeria's energy potential while addressing the associated risks for sustainable growth. As stakeholders prepare for the event, the focus on collaboration, investment, and innovation could significantly influence the trajectory of Nigeria’s energy future.
