The Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada is set to host its 2025 Annual National Conference at the Hilton Barbados Resort, combining expert insights with Caribbean leisure in a bid to drive industry innovation and collaboration.

The Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) is set to host its 2025 Annual National Conference in an inviting tropical setting at the Hilton Barbados Resort in Bridgetown, Barbados, from November 26 to 29. This event marks an exciting occasion for the mechanical contracting industry, combining stimulating educational sessions, valuable networking opportunities, and a range of social and recreational activities designed for industry professionals and their associates.

Leading up to the main conference, private meetings and exclusive gatherings will take place, involving important MCAC committees such as the managers’ council, executive and advocacy committees, industry advancement, innovation, and a board of directors reception. These preliminary events lay the groundwork for focused industry discussions and strategic planning.

The conference agenda is comprehensive and designed to appeal to a wide audience within the mechanical contracting sector. Day one features a golf tournament at the renowned Sandy Lane Golf and Country Club, a reception for first-time attendees, and an opening night networking event highlighted by a "beach rhythms" themed buffet dinner. This blend of recreation and networking fosters a collegial atmosphere conducive to collaboration.

Day two kicks off with keynote remarks by Manjit Minhas, president and CEO of Minhas Breweries and a celebrity judge on the television show Dragon’s Den. The sessions throughout the day will address practical and forward-looking topics such as enhancing collaboration among contractors, consultants, and owners; investment strategies for succession planning; legal considerations for mechanical contractors; and prefabrication strategies suitable for companies of various sizes. Esteemed speakers including Danny Dillion of Dilfo Group, Tom LeRoy from WSP, Wesley Orr of PCL, and legal experts from McMillan LLP will provide insights, underpinning the sessions with real-world experience and expert analysis.

The third day focuses on navigating industry changes, workforce development, and tailored sessions for contractors and associate members. Presenters such as Bill Ferreira, executive director of Buildforce Canada, Monte McNaughton of MGM Strategies, and Sean Strickland from the Canada Building Trades Union will explore themes vital to shaping the sector’s future. Sessions will also explore how Canada’s mechanical contractors can adapt to the "new normal" and how the workforce can be reshaped to meet evolving demands.

The final day includes a contractors’ only annual general meeting, a board of directors meeting, and concludes with a closing keynote presentation by leadership development professional Mark Gasparotto, emphasizing future leadership and growth within the industry.

In addition to the educational programme, attendees can enjoy an array of companion events and excursions unique to the Barbados locale. These include a beach race challenge, a lively night at the Harbour Lights Beach Club, explorations of the ecological sanctuary Walker’s Reserve, a Mount Gay rum tour, and a catamaran tour. The immersive social experiences culminate in a closing night reception and gala dinner, where guests are encouraged to dress in sunset-inspired colours, creating an elegant and memorable finale.

Supporting the conference, Milwaukee Tool has been announced as the presenting sponsor, underscoring its commitment to advancing the mechanical trades in Canada. They will also sponsor the Closing Night Reception and Gala, celebrating industry achievements and fostering camaraderie among attendees.

For those interested, early bird registration rates are available until September 30, 2025, with additional information and inquiries managed by MCAC event coordinators. This conference positions itself not only as an education and networking hub but also as a celebration of the mechanical contracting profession’s vitality and innovation, set against the backdrop of Barbados’ exquisite environment.

This gathering promises to equip association and trade body executives with knowledge and connections tailored to navigate the future challenges and opportunities within the mechanical contracting sector, making it a key event on the 2025 calendar.
