Making big governance changes: the why, how and what of big decision making

What drivers create the need for a major governance review? How do you decide what solution is best for your association and how do you engage with stakeholders to create that change? But who is leading change: is it you, your staff, your members or external forces? After you have implemented, what then? We know governance is key to what we know and do, it is the mortar between the building blocks of our organisations. But many of our members and leaders do not understand it nor have little interest in it.

This session will identify the challenges, opportunities and risks associated with major governance change. It will hear stories from two associations brave enough to tackle change and successfully implement it, both with a structured approach to understanding change, making decisions on the way forward and successfully communicating with members.

Attending this session means you will :

  • Hear stories from associations which have recently driven change
  • Learn what drove the change and how it was agreed on
  • Gain insight into what plans are in place to implement change and to measure it
  • Establish what comes after implementation
  • Take away ideas for your own strategies
  • Discuss governance and change in a peer-to-peer forum, its obstacles and the opportunities change can bring
