Interferry2025 to spotlight sustainability and global collaboration at Sorrento conference

The Interferry2025 conference in Sorrento, Italy, will unite global ferry leaders like Bud Darr and Isabelle Ryckbost to emphasize 'Connections' and promote shore power in European ports by 2030.

The upcoming Interferry2025 conference promises to be a significant event for the ferry industry, taking place from 4-8 October 2025 in the picturesque town of Sorrento, Italy. This year’s theme, ‘Connections’, will serve as a focal point for discussions and engagement among industry leaders, reflecting the critical importance of collaboration in navigating the current challenges faced by the maritime transportation sector.

Keynote addresses will be delivered by notable figures in the industry: Bud Darr, president and CEO of the Cruise Lines International Association, and Isabelle Ryckbost, secretary general of the European Sea Ports Organisation. Darr, who has made a noteworthy return to the cruise industry after a tenure with MSC Group, is expected to explore the various challenges and opportunities that the industry encounters in building connections with customers, communities, and employees. Meanwhile, Ryckbost will present updates on the rollout of shore power supply across European ports, highlighting collaborative efforts necessary to meet the 2030 deadline for shore power availability—a crucial step in making ferry operations more sustainable.

The conference is set to include a rich programme of panel discussions and networking opportunities, with a growing list of confirmed speakers. Among those participating are Mary Ann Pastrana, executive vice president at Archipelago Philippine Ferries; Greta Bédard, president and CEO at Société des traversiers du Québec; and Emanuele Grimaldi, managing director of Grimaldi Group. Mike Corrigan, CEO of Interferry, noted the unprecedented participation of ferry company leaders from around the globe, underscoring the vital role that 'Connections' play in fostering dialogue and cooperation within the industry. He emphasised that as the industry faces rapid global changes—spanning sustainability issues, evolving regulations, and the need for economic growth—such connections are more crucial than ever.

The conference will be hosted at the Hilton Sorrento Palace Congress Centre, a venue designed specifically to facilitate interaction and collaboration. The Sirene Auditorium, with its generous capacity and modern facilities, will host the speakers' programme and various networking events. This strategically chosen location not only offers top-notch amenities but also picturesque surroundings that showcase Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast, enhancing the experience for all attendees.

In addition to the main conference activities, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in PreTours, which are designed to enrich their experiences in Sorrento. Options include a visit to the enchanting Island of Capri on the opening day of the conference, followed by a tour of the historic ruins of Pompeii, concluding with a delightful winery lunch. These PreTours aim to provide a fuller cultural experience for delegates, allowing them to explore some of the region's most iconic sites before immersing themselves in the discussions and networking opportunities of the conference.

As the ferry industry navigates through these transformative times, Interferry2025 stands as a crucial platform for leaders to forge essential connections, exchange insights, and collaboratively seek solutions that will define the future of maritime transportation.
