IGTOA Conference and awards celebrates Irish golf tourism sector milestone

Ireland's golf industry gathered at the K Club for the IGTOA Conference and Gala Irish Golf Awards, spotlighting innovation, community impact, and future growth prospects amid a backdrop of heritage and excellence.

The 28th Annual Ireland Golf Tour Operator Association (IGTOA) Conference and Gala Irish Golf Awards took place at the renowned K Club in County Kildare, marking a significant milestone for the Irish golf tourism sector. This two-day gathering drew leaders from every facet of the industry, including tour operators, golf clubs, resorts, hotels, and transport providers. They convened to network, strategize, and celebrate exceptional achievements within Ireland’s thriving golf tourism market.

Recognised as a vital event in the Irish golf tourism calendar, the IGTOA Conference has grown to become an essential platform for the sector. This year’s event, themed “Staying On Course,” addressed both the challenges and future opportunities facing the industry. Esteemed economist Jim Power delivered a keynote speech analysing the broader economic landscape and its potential impacts on tourism. Further insights on technological innovation were provided by AI and digital transformation expert Ciaran Connolly, who demonstrated how emerging technologies might drive substantial growth and innovation in golf-related businesses. The conference catered effectively to both golfing professionals and non-golfing delegates, offering an engaging mix of educational sessions and interactive networking opportunities.

The K Club, a prestigious venue famed for hosting the 2006 Ryder Cup and the 2025 Amgen Irish Open—recently won by Rory McIlroy in a thrilling playoff—provided an exemplary backdrop for the event. Attendees enjoyed a round on the club’s celebrated Palmer North Course, linking the conference to the venue’s rich golfing heritage. This year introduced a philanthropic element with the “Play in Pink” initiative, supporting the National Breast Cancer Research Institute. Participants enthusiastically donned vibrant pink attire, combining sporting spirit with community support, embodying the event’s motto: “Play for Good and Play for Fun.”

The highlight of the conference was undoubtedly the Gala Irish Golf Awards, a black-tie ceremony that honoured outstanding contributions across the industry. Hosted by broadcaster Des Cahill, the awards celebrated excellence, innovation, and service that reinforce Ireland’s reputation as a world-class golf destination. Among the recipients, Mark Nolan of Dromoland Castle received the prestigious Jerry Donworth Outstanding Contribution to Golf award, while Paul Vaughan of Ardglass Golf Club was named Golf Manager of the Year. Tralee Golf Club and Killeen Castle Golf Club took top honours for Links and Parkland Golf Courses respectively. Vaughan Lodge in Lahinch was recognised as Boutique Property of the Year, and The Fitzwilliam Hotel in Dublin received the award for Large Golf Hotel of the Year. Other awards highlighted service excellence at Royal Dublin Golf Club and sustainability achievements by The Brehon Hotel.

The IGTOA, representing a wide array of professionals including tour operators, resorts, courses, accommodation providers, and transport companies, plays an integral role in promoting Irish golf tourism. Beyond the awards event, the association provides numerous member benefits and industry partnership opportunities, aiming to enhance Ireland’s profile as a top golfing destination. The organisation has also announced that the 2026 Annual Conference and Gala Irish Golf Awards will be held at The Rose Hotel Tralee, Ballygarry Estate Hotel & Spa, and Tralee Golf Club, promising an even larger and more impactful event next year.

This year’s success owes much to key supporters, including The K Club, Into Kildare, Kildare County Council, Fáilte Ireland, Tourism Ireland, Tourism Northern Ireland, and a host of corporate and media partners like Irish Golfer Magazine, which acted as the event’s media partner. The collective effort and collaboration among these stakeholders underscore the strength and vibrancy of the Irish golf tourism sector.

As the industry looks ahead, the conference underscored not only the opportunities that lie on the horizon but also the community spirit and innovation that drive the ongoing success of golf tourism in Ireland. With a strong foundation and ambitious plans, the sector is well-positioned to maintain its global standing and continue delivering outstanding experiences for members and tourists alike.
