ICE Joins Nine-Body B.E. Inclusive Coalition's New Five-Year EDI Plan

The Institution of Civil Engineers reaffirms its commitment to diversity and inclusion as the B.E. Inclusive partnership enters its 2025–2030 phase with three new signatories.

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), founded in 1818 and one of the world's oldest and most respected professional engineering bodies with more than 95,000 members, confirmed its ongoing and expanded commitment to the B.E. Inclusive joint EDI initiative as it entered its new 2025–2030 phase.

ICE is one of nine signatory bodies to the renewed Memorandum of Understanding, which builds on the three-year programme launched in 2022. The expanded coalition now collectively represents over 400,000 built environment professionals. Three organisations joined the initiative in 2025: the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES), the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT), and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT).

The 2025–2030 action plan focuses on three priority areas: improving EDI data collection and analysis across the professions and sharing findings more widely; strengthening talent pipelines and industry culture; and ensuring that careers in the built environment are accessible across all communities and identities.

ICE CEO Dr Janet Young CBE said: "Since its inception, the B.E. Inclusive group has regularly brought built environment leaders together to progress its mission. The Institution of Civil Engineers is proud to be part of this initiative and looks forward to continuing this work through 2030."
