IATA Holds World Data Symposium in Singapore for Aviation Leaders
The International Air Transport Association held the second edition of its World Data Symposium in Singapore on 8 and 9 April 2026, bringing together data, technology and cybersecurity leaders from across the global aviation industry. The event took place at the Shangri-La Singapore and featured high-level speakers from a wide range of airlines, airports and aviation technology companies.
The symposium focused on three core themes: using data to drive operational efficiency and stronger strategic decision-making; strengthening cybersecurity readiness and resilience across the entire aviation value chain; and leveraging artificial intelligence and automation to transform operational performance and the passenger experience. The programme included sessions on digital transformation in aviation, the role of open AI in the industry, digital twins in airports and aviation operations, and a CEO panel on securing the industry's digital future.
Singapore Airlines served as the event's official airline partner. IATA's Director General Willie Walsh was among the key speakers, joined by Kim Macaulay, the association's Senior Vice President of Information and Data and Chief Information and Data Officer. Macaulay described data as one of aviation's most powerful strategic assets, stating that the symposium exists to accelerate progress towards a smarter, safer and more connected future for the industry.
IATA represents over 360 airlines accounting for approximately 85% of global air traffic, and the World Data Symposium has been established as the association's dedicated forum for aviation data and digital leadership.
