Hanover confirmed as host city for ITMA 2027 textile machinery exhibition

Hanover, Germany, will welcome the world’s largest textile and garment technology exhibition, ITMA 2027, in September at the Messegelände Hannover venue, marking the event’s return to the city after more than 30 years.

Hanover, Germany, has been confirmed as the host city for ITMA 2027, the world’s largest exhibition dedicated to textile and garment technology. The International Textile Machinery Association (ITMA) exhibition is scheduled to take place from 16 to 22 September 2027 at the Messegelände Hannover venue, utilising 13 exhibition halls to cover an expansive 200,000 square metres of space.

This quadrennial event, established in 1951, is a key fixture in the textile machinery industry calendar. ITMA last took place in Hanover over three decades ago, in 1991. The successful bid to bring the 2027 event back to this German city was submitted by Deutsche Messe, the owner of the venue, in close partnership with the city of Hanover and the office of the Lord Mayor of Lower Saxony.

Belit Onay, mayor of Hanover, expressed enthusiasm about the selection, telling the Digital Textile Printer Blog, “We are elated to have successfully bid for ITMA 2027. A bustling hub for trade fairs and congresses, the city looks forward to welcome ITMA back to Hanover after more than 30 years.” He highlighted Hanover’s qualities as a host city, adding, “Hanover is a green and efficient city with a relaxed atmosphere. As a major trade fair city, Hanover is organised, and easy to navigate, making it a stress-free destination for visitors. Its blend of history and modernity makes it a hidden gem for those seeking a well-balanced urban experience.”

The exhibition is owned by the European Committee of Textile Machinery Manufacturers (CEMATEX), whose president Alex Zucchi commented on the forthcoming event’s logistics. “We look forward to staging our exhibition in Hanover. The city has the necessary infrastructure to support a huge congregation of exhibitors and visitors of a mega ITMA exhibition. The organising team is working with the venue owner to ensure that all participants will have a seamless experience akin to what they have been used to at past editions,” Zucchi said.

ITMA 2027 is anticipated to draw large numbers of international exhibitors and visitors, continuing the trend of recent shows. The previous edition, held in Milan in 2023, featured 1,709 exhibitors representing 47 countries and welcomed over 111,000 visitors from 143 nations, underscoring the global scale and importance of the event for the textile and garment technology sectors.

This announcement marks a significant occasion for the industry association community, including trade bodies and confederations representing textile technology stakeholders, as it signals advanced preparations by Deutsche Messe and city authorities to deliver a comprehensive and smoothly run platform for members and exhibitors. ITMA’s return to Hanover will enable associations and trade organisations to showcase innovations, network extensively, and engage members in one of Europe’s foremost hubs for industrial trade fairs.

Executives within the sector can anticipate leveraging the event’s scale and profile for substantial member benefits, ensuring their organisations remain at the forefront of technological advancements and market opportunities within the global textile machinery landscape.
