EuroPerio11 in Vienna set to be largest ever periodontics congress with WHO collaboration
The global periodontics community gathers for EuroPerio11, a landmark congress set to take place from 14 to 17 May 2025 at the Messe Wien Exhibition and Congress Center in Vienna. Anticipated to be the largest of its kind, the congress promises a comprehensive programme featuring the latest research, clinical techniques, and innovations in periodontics and implant dentistry.
At the recent opening ceremony, Dr Elena Figuero, treasurer of the EuroPerio11 Committee, heralded the congress as “the largest and best-attended congress in the leading discipline of periodontics and implant dentistry.” She urged participants to “shape the future of periodontics together,” highlighting the event’s mission to push the boundaries of the field. EuroPerio has continuously evolved since its inaugural gathering in Paris in 1994, which saw 1,200 attendees; by its ninth edition in Amsterdam, the event reached a historic five-digit attendance. This consistent growth underscores the congress's vital role as a cornerstone event in the world of periodontics.
Prof. Anton Sculean, chair of the EuroPerio11 Committee, expressed his enthusiasm for the event’s progress. “EuroPerio11 has surpassed our expectations. We’ve witnessed the global perio community’s growth in strength, diversity, and ambition,” he stated. He noted that the scientific presentations would significantly influence the practice, education, and understanding of periodontal health for years to come. Among the key sessions, he highlighted a notable collaboration with the World Health Organization, which reinforced the need for periodontal health to gain a prominent place on the global health agenda. Additional noteworthy contributions included joint symposia from various esteemed institutions, such as the European Federation of Periodontology and the American Academy of Periodontology.
EuroPerio11 boasts a robust scientific programme with over 150 esteemed speakers and interactive elements, including live surgeries and innovative workshops. The congress will delve into critical topics such as mucogingival surgery, peri-implantitis, and the relationship between oral health and systemic conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Attendees can expect to absorb groundbreaking insights on the perio–systemic connection and advancements in regenerative techniques.
In an effort to promote comprehensive learning, the congress will also introduce a variety of educational formats, including sessions addressing surgical errors, which will contribute to enhancing clinical practices. Moreover, an Innovation Zone will showcase emerging technologies, while the extensive poster exhibition will display more than 1,600 research posters, allowing attendees to engage with cutting-edge developments in the field.
Prior to the congress, Vienna will host Gum Health Day on 12 May, a community engagement initiative offering free dental check-ups and raising awareness about gum health. Such efforts not only illustrate the congress's commitment to advancing global periodontal health but also foster community involvement.
With the registration opening on 2 September 2024 and early bird pricing available until 31 January 2025, EuroPerio11 is positioned to attract a diverse international audience of dental professionals eager to learn, network, and contribute to the advancement of periodontics and implant dentistry.
