CES invites proposals for its 32nd Europeanists conference in Dublin with a focus on European integration and inclusivity
The Council for European Studies (CES) has opened submissions for its 32nd International Conference of Europeanists, which will take place in Dublin from June 16 to 18, 2026. As a leading organisation dedicated to advancing multidisciplinary research on Europe, CES’s annual gathering is recognised as a premier global venue where scholars from diverse disciplines and career stages convene to present research, engage in dialogue, and foster networks that shape the future of European Studies.
This upcoming conference embraces the theme, "Integrity, Solidarity, and Unity: Hopes and Realities of the European Future," inviting proposals that critically examine these concepts through varied theoretical, methodological, and disciplinary lenses. While the thematic focus encourages exploration of current and future European integration challenges, organisers welcome submissions extending across all topics pertinent to European Studies, thus maintaining the broad and inclusive nature of the discourse.
Proposals can take multiple forms, including single papers (either paired or unpaired), pre-formatted panels, roundtables, and book panels. There is a distinct encouragement for submissions that feature early-career scholars and amplify diverse voices within the field, underlining CES’s commitment to inclusivity and nurturing emerging talent.
The conference provides an exceptional opportunity for researchers to present their work to an international academic audience, participate in interdisciplinary dialogues, and connect with a global network of Europeanists. Such interactions are essential for fostering collaborative research and advancing shared understanding in a time when Europe faces complex socio-political and economic transformations.
This event follows the 31st International Conference of Europeanists, held in Philadelphia in June 2025 with the theme, "Legacies and Ruptures: Making Sense of Europe." The previous conference offered rich discourse on Europe's historical continuities and disruptions, featuring notable sessions such as the JCMS keynote address by Mark Copelovitch, focusing on Europe’s uncertain future amid shifting global power dynamics. The Philadelphia conference also marked a milestone, commemorating 55 years since CES’s founding and reflecting on the organisation’s enduring contributions to European scholarship.
With the Dublin conference scheduled less than a year later, CES appears to be continuing its tradition of fostering critical debate on Europe’s evolving identity and challenges. Interested participants are advised to submit their proposals by October 8, 2025. Detailed submission guidelines and application procedures are available on the CES website.
By maintaining a relevant and forward-looking agenda, the 32nd International Conference of Europeanists promises to be a significant event for executives and members of associations and trade bodies engaged in European affairs, offering vital insights and networking potential in a dynamic scholarly community.
