AWSISA Dialogue 2025 set to unite 1,500 delegates for actionable water and sanitation solutions

The AWSISA Africa and Global South Water and Sanitation Dialogue 2025 in South Africa will convene 1,500 experts to address urgent water challenges aligned with UN SDG 6.

The AWSISA Africa and Global South Water and Sanitation Dialogue 2025 is poised to be a landmark event, drawing more than 1,500 delegates from across Africa and beyond to Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, South Africa, from 9 to 12 November 2025. This three-day symposium is not merely an event but a convergence of thought leadership and innovative action, as articulated by AWSISA Chairperson Mr. Ramateu Mofokeng. He emphasises that water and sanitation are fundamental human rights, essential not only for health and dignity but also for sustainable development.

Focusing on the overarching theme of “Towards Sustainable Water and Sanitation Security in Africa,” the Dialogue is designed to facilitate discussions that reflect an urgent need for inclusive, long-term solutions in the water and sanitation sectors. The event aims to unite leaders, practitioners, and innovators to explore tangible strategies for improving water access and sanitation infrastructure. The forum will feature engaging panel discussions, exhibitions, and various networking sessions aimed at fostering collaboration and innovation. Participation in these discussions offers attendees insights into successful methodologies and emerging technologies that respond effectively to some of the greatest challenges facing the region.

The thematic areas of the Dialogue encompass critical concerns such as water security, climate resilience, and sustainable sanitation, along with dimensions of governance, financing, and community engagement. These topics align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 6, which calls for the sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. By addressing these multifaceted issues, AWSISA encourages a collective approach that utilises diverse perspectives to develop impactful solutions — a sentiment echoed in Mr. Mofokeng's assertion that “the imperative for sustainable change is clear, and the time to act is now.”

In addition to showcasing revolutionary practices, the event is a prime opportunity for local startups and international institutions to connect with key decision-makers. This interactive environment allows for the exchange of ideas and advancements in technology, which are vital as the sector grapples with growing pressures from urbanisation and climate change. The need for strengthened partnerships, both regionally and globally, has never been more pressing, especially as many countries in the Global South face escalating water crises.

In light of recent calls from AWSISA leaders for bold actions to combat South Africa's water challenges, which stem from ageing infrastructure and governance hurdles, the Dialogue provides an essential platform for dialogue and commitment. It aims to catalyse collaborations that yield actionable results in the fight against failing service delivery and water pollution. AWSISA has previously urged for higher compliance with wastewater standards and called for capable professionals to manage water resources effectively.

As the 2025 Dialogue approaches, the stage is set not only for sharing best practices but also for engaging in meaningful collaborations that can propel the African narrative of water governance forward. Ultimately, the Dialogue will encapsulate a holistic view of the pressing issues and innovative responses necessary for ensuring water security—a crucial step towards healthier communities and sustainable development across the continent.

The AWSISA Dialogue promises to be an influential gathering, bridging gaps between experienced practitioners and emerging voices in the water and sanitation sectors, all while serving as a catalyst for action in addressing one of the most crucial challenges of our time.
