Aleks Tomczyk to succeed Nicola Anderson as new chief executive of FinTech Scotland

Aleks Tomczyk has been appointed as the new chief executive of FinTech Scotland, marking a new chapter following Nicola Anderson’s departure to Scottish Enterprise. The transition aims to sustain Scotland’s fintech momentum and build on a decade of pioneering initiatives in the sector.

FinTech Scotland will see a leadership transition as Aleks Tomczyk takes over as chief executive from Nicola Anderson, who is set to move to a senior director role at Scottish Enterprise by the end of 2025. Mr Tomczyk has already joined as designate CEO and will work closely with Ms Anderson over the remainder of the year to ensure a smooth handover.

Ms Anderson’s five-year tenure at the helm of FinTech Scotland has been marked by significant advances in the sector’s development. She played a central role in launching pioneering initiatives such as the Financial Regulation Innovation Lab and the UK’s first FinTech Research and Innovation Strategic Roadmap. These programmes have bolstered Scotland’s fintech ecosystem and helped position it as a leading force in financial innovation both nationally and internationally.

Under her leadership, the organisation forged strong links with a diverse range of over thirty industrial and academic strategic partners. The fintech community within Scotland has grown to encompass more than 250 SMEs, fostering a vibrant and collaborative environment for innovation. Stephen Ingledew, FinTech Scotland’s inaugural CEO and current chairman, credited Ms Anderson with delivering inspiring leadership that positioned the body as a recognised cluster management organisation on the global stage.

Mr Tomczyk, known as the founder of Exizent and a non-executive director at Estatesearch Group, arrives with a mandate to build on these foundations and guide FinTech Scotland into its next phase of growth. Speaking about his appointment, he expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity “to deliver yet further for all our stakeholders,” signalling continuity and ambition.

Ms Anderson reflected on her tenure with pride, highlighting the collaborative nature of the fintech cluster she helped nurture and the positive economic impact it has achieved. She also expressed excitement about her new role at Scottish Enterprise, where she aims to extend her experience and influence within the fintech sector.

This leadership handover comes as FinTech Scotland reaches a new chapter following a thorough search process that focused on the skills required to advance the organisation’s strategic goals. Mr Tomczyk’s arrival is viewed as key to sustaining momentum in a city and country increasingly recognised for fintech innovation.

Industry observers note that FinTech Scotland’s strategic roadmap and regulatory innovation projects have been instrumental in addressing common challenges faced by fintech firms, including navigating complex compliance requirements while fostering an environment conducive to innovation. The close collaboration with regulatory bodies during Ms Anderson’s leadership period has been particularly highlighted as a strength, offering the Scottish fintech ecosystem a competitive edge.

As the sector continues to evolve rapidly worldwide, FinTech Scotland’s role in uniting academic, industrial, and SME partners remains critical. The organisation’s ability to adapt and lead through this transition will be closely watched by stakeholders eager to see how it maintains Scotland’s fintech prominence.
