About the Organisation

BIR counts over 1100 corporate members and national associations in 73 countries. Together, these members form the largest international recycling federation. The organisation covers eight material streams: iron/steel, non-ferrous metals, paper, textiles, stainless steel/special alloys, plastics, tyres/rubber, and electrics/electronics/EV batteries. BIR is a non-profit organisation under Belgian law (AISBL), with its registered office headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. The BIR Secretariat is composed of a small but efficient team of 13 professionals from diverse backgrounds and nationalities.

About the role

The Bureau of International Recycling, the global federation of recycling industries, is searching for an experienced multilingual PR/Communications Officer to join its communications department. In this role, you will play a key part in amplifying our voice and promoting the critical role of recycling in a circular economy.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Position:

• Contribute to the development and production of BIR publications, including magazines, reports, and newsletters
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop engaging web content and communication tools
• Enhance BIR's visual identity through the creation of compelling graphics and presentations
• Support media relations and outreach activities to raise awareness of BIR and its initiatives
• Assist the social media manager with campaigns and online presence optimization
• Attend BIR’s twice-yearly recycling conventions.

Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a PR/communications role (minimum 2-3 years) is a must
• Solid experience with digital communication platforms (content creation, photo editing, digital marketing, website management)
• Track record in managing publications and other communication materials
• Excellent writing and editing skills in English (C1)
• Proficiency in French is a significant advantage, and fluency in additional European languages is a plus.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field
