About the Organisation

European Federation of Geologists (EFG) is a professional organisation representing geoscientists from all over Europe. Established in 1980, EFG currently encompasses 28 national associations as members. EFG’s mission is to promote excellence in the application of geosciences across Europe, to represent the professional interests of European geologists, and to raise public awareness of the importance of geosciences to society.

EFG’s objectives are to contribute to public safety, sustainable development, the responsible use of natural resources, wealth creation, and the effective prediction, prevention, and mitigation of natural hazards. This is achieved through collaboration with other experts and effective communication with the public.

As the geological organisation of choice for National Associations across Europe seeking representation within the EU, and for policymakers seeking expertise, we aim to be recognised globally through our international network of partnering organisations and respected as a federation steeped in values that sustainably balance the needs of all humanity with that of our planet.

About the role

The European Federation of Geologists is looking for a dynamic Policy Officer to join its team in Brussels and steer the association’s policy work at European level. • Monitor and gather intelligence on policy developments relevant to geologists in sectors such as mineral raw materials, energy, water, soils, natural hazards mitigation or geological heritage.
  • Provide regular briefings to management, the Board, members, and Panels of Experts on key developments and respond promptly to internal policy-related queries.
  • Define and implement advocacy strategies to promote EFG’s positions through interactions with EU decision-makers and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Draft position papers, briefing notes, presentations, and other materials, and contribute to consultations by coordinating input from EFG member associations and expert groups.
  • Coordinate the activities of EFG Panels of Experts, Task Forces, and other internal working groups.
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and partners to enhance the organisation’s reach and influence.
  • Map relevant contacts and keep track of interactions for EFG’s organisational history.
  • Engage in joint advocacy activities with existing or new partner organisations.
  • Represent EFG at conferences, workshops, stakeholder meetings, and other events, primarily in Brussels but occasionally elsewhere in Europe.
  • Respond to requests from policymakers and journalists.

Supporting EFG Operations:

  • Contribute content to EFG’s communication channels, including newsletters, social media, and the website.
  • Assist with the identification of EU-funding opportunities and contribute to project applications.
  • Support the organisation of on-site and virtual events.
