About the role
We are seeking an expert and experienced Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Manager to join our ambitious finance team during an exciting period of financial transformation across a £25m trade union and two associated charities. As part of our new finance strategy, we are embedding long-term planning and modelling across the organisation during a time of significant change. We are designing and rolling out sophisticated reporting and analysis, working directly with the Leadership Team on high-profile finance transformation projects.
With a new finance system in place and more systems development in progress, we need you to maximise these products to improve our financial analysis, long-term modelling and planning and build financial confidence and literacy at all levels. As the FP&A Manager, you will lead on business partnering across the organisation and our two associated charities. You will lead on budgeting, forecasting and business modelling, to support the organisation to maximise strategic impact and minimise risk.
With excellent modelling, people management and communication skills, you will lead all organisational financial reporting and presentations, improve and roll out new analysis and dashboards and lead long-term planning projects, whilst continually reviewing the wider business environment to identify any potential opportunities and threats.
As a senior finance expert within the organisation, you will bring technical expertise, resilience, excellent communication and influencing skills. You will be a strong people leader who is able to bring others along with you, acting as a trainer and a coach to improve the financial understanding and enable stakeholders to understand and make effective financial decisions.
The Financial Planning and Analysis Manager is the technical leader responsible for financial analysis, modelling, budgeting and financial reporting across the CSP and its two associated charities. You will lead and manage a small team and report directly to the Head of Finance Assistant Director, and join the management group of the Finance Team and Corporate Services and Infrastructure Directorate.
Responsibilities
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead financial planning and business partnering across the organisation and the two associated charities, working collaboratively with budget holders and other staff to understand requirements and present advice, solutions and recommendations to improve processes and performance.
- Lead on all budgeting, forecasting and business modelling - driving internal compliance, consistency and efficiency in process.
- Regularly report to the Leadership Team, our Finance Risk and Audit Committee and governing Committees on financial performance, financial position, sensitivity, risk and multi-year forecasting.
- Develop and present multi-year scenarios, forecasts and pricing options to enable long-term financial planning and income setting.
- Act as trainer and coach to improve the commercial understanding across the organisation, leading workshops and providing the necessary tools and theoretical understanding.
- Support budget holders and project owners with effective budget management, risk management and investment appraisal to maximise value for money for our members.
- Develop and improve organisational financial/non-financial dashboards, reports and analysis for a wide range of organisational stakeholders.
- Lead on grant, long-term project and capital budgeting and forecasting, and review business cases for organisational investment.
- Review the wider business environment and identify potential commercial opportunities and threats; maintain strong technical awareness of VAT, Corporation Tax and payroll taxes.
- Support the Head of Finance and Finance team with the annual audit and in ensuring that financial procedures, systems, and internal controls are effective and efficient, protecting the organisation against fraud and other misuse of funds.
- Act as an integral leader within the finance team, contributing to culture setting and coordinating team planning and collaboration on major projects and priorities
- Actively promote a working environment that builds trust, empowerment, challenge, high performance and continuous improvement.
- Support cost improvement and procurement across the organisation to improve value for money and drive efficiency.
Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes
Experience:
- Relevant experience in a charity, membership organisation, and trade union leading a financial planning and analysis team.
- Leadership experience in a broad FPA role including modelling, scenario planning, investment appraisal, budgeting, medium- term forecasting, management accounting and presenting at Board level.
- Managing relationships and providing effective influence and challenge to budget holders, project managers, governing bodies and senior leadership teams.
Skills & Knowledge:
- An organised self-starter who can prioritise and deliver against competing priorities with minimal supervision.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills to train, coach, support, collaborate and engage with others to deliver our mission.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to critically analyse information and data and synthesise it to inform decisions.
- Proficiency in MS 365 and a range of accounting software,
- Advanced Excel skills.
