About the role
The Education Manager provides operational management and is the lead for CIHT’s education and professional development day-to-day activity. The role manages the delivery and continuous improvement of professional registration, accreditation, apprenticeships, mentoring, CPD and professional development support, ensuring that members, candidates, volunteers, employers and partners receive a high-quality and consistent experience.
The postholder will manage the Professional Development Officer and Education and Qualifications Officer, coordinate delivery across the team, and work with colleagues across CIHT to translate strategic priorities into practical programmes, processes and member-facing outputs.
The postholder is also responsible for maintaining effective processes, quality assurance arrangements and evidence required to support compliance with relevant professional, regulatory and awarding body requirements. Line management responsibility for the Professional Development Officer and Education and Qualifications Officer.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the operational delivery of CIHT’s education, professional development, professional registration and accreditation activities.
- Develop and maintain the systems, processes and forward plans needed to deliver education and professional development outputs in line with CIHT business plans.
- Manage operational delivery of Engineering Council registration, Chartered Transport Planning Professional assessment, Transport Planning Technician Apprenticeship activity and related professional review processes.
- Oversee candidate and participant journeys from enquiry through to assessment, registration or completion, ensuring a positive user experience and efficient processes.
- Monitor delivery, performance and quality against agreed KPIs, using data and stakeholder feedback to recommend improvements.
- Support budget forecasting, monitoring and reporting for education and professional development activity.
- Service and support CIHT panels, committees and working groups related to professional registration and CPD.
- Support the Education and Professional Development Board with appropriate data and information as needed.
- Ensure guidance, templates, standards and process documentation remain current, clear and fit for purpose.
- Manage CIHT’s accreditation activity through the Joint Board of Moderators and for the Transport Planning Professional qualification, coordinating input from colleagues, volunteers and external partners.
- Lead the development and implementation of support for registration and professional development pathways, including mentoring and CIHT’s Professional Development Framework.
- Coordinate the recruitment, onboarding, training and succession planning of volunteers involved in registration, professional development, accreditation, assessment, mentoring and outreach.
- Ensure CIHT has inclusive, fair and robust assessment and quality assurance processes for CEng, IEng, EngTech, CTPP and Transport Planning Technician Apprenticeship activity.
- Proactively gather and use feedback from candidates, reviewers, volunteers, staff, employers and partners to drive continuous improvement.
- Work with the Director of Education, Learning and Training to translate strategy into delivery plans, escalating risks, opportunities and decisions where appropriate.

Person Specification:
- Relevant experience of managing and developing professional qualifications, accreditation, professional development, apprenticeships or education programmes.
- Experience within a professional body, membership organisation, education provider, awarding organisation or similarly regulated environment.
- Experience of managing staff, volunteers or cross-functional delivery teams, including coordinating workloads, supporting performance and enabling effective delivery through others.
Desirable:
- Experience of Engineering Council registration and accreditation

- Willingness to travel within the UK when required.

Required Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience in education, professional development, qualifications, membership, professional registration or a related field.
