About the Organisation
EFFAB is the Voice of Farm Animal Breeders in Brussels. With FABRE TP, its sister organisation, it covers EU policy topics related to animal breeding, genetics, and reproduction, as well as research in those areas. Members of EFFAB and FABRE TP are breeding companies, breeding organisations, reproduction units and research institutions working with ruminants, poultry, pigs, aquaculture, and insect species. With over 80 members, EFFAB and FABRE TP are Brussels-based organisations comprising a team of 8 people from diverse nationalities, skills, and backgrounds. EFFAB and FABRE TP activities extend beyond the EU, with members and activities in key partner countries and regions, including Norway, Switzerland, the UK, Canada, and Africa. Animal Breeding and Genetics play a key role in shaping the next generation of farm animals and in contributing to the sustainability of European Animal Farming, the health and welfare of farm animals, and overall European food security.
About the role
We are now seeking a dynamic and proactive professional to lead EFFAB and FABRE TP advocay work in the EU and aiming to contribute to the exciting conversation on the future of animal agriculture and aquaculture.
Responsibilities
- Drive the strategic development, management and planning of both organisations
- Lead and coach a high-skilled and motivated team, creating space for collective and individual development and empowerment
- Together with the EFFAB Steering Committee and the FABRE TP Board, define the advocacy general roadmap, ensuring coherence with members’ needs and overall vision and strategy.
- Together with the colleagues, implement the advocacy plans
- Build and maintain strong relationships with members
- Build and maintain high-level relationships with European Institutions, Permanent Representations, and key stakeholders in the food sector in Brussels and other countries.
- Seek to ensure membership, secure grants, and cultivate new partnerships, working alongside the EU Research Programs team
- Manage overall finances, budgeting and financial reporting, working alongside the Financial Officer and the Treasurer
Skills, Competencies & Experience
Required Skills:
- Able to understand animal breeding and reproduction. A background in animal breeding and reproduction is a plus.
- Have a in-depth knowledge of EU policy related to animal breeding and farming, including aquaculture. Knowledge of ongoing research in the sector and EU Research programs, such as Horizon Europe, is a plus.
- Visionary and empathetic leader with a proven ability to guide the team and the organisation, and ensure effective governance
- A highly skilled communicator with public speaking skills and the ability to represent the organisation at high-level events
- Proficient English, with fluent French and/or other European languages
- Strong IT literacy and a good understanding of digital tools and platforms
Required Experience:
- Have a minimum of experience of 10 years and of 3-5 in a management position
- Experienced in working within an international non-profit advocacy organisation
Required Qualifications
- University degree (Master or PhD) in EU public affairs, Animal Science or related field.
Compensation & Benefits
- A full-time contract for an indefinite time under Belgian law
- The conditions, including a wide range of extra-legal benefits, will be considered depending on the candidate’s experience.
Conditions of employment
- The successful candidate must have the legal right to work in Belgium from the start date.
Working locations
- EFFAB and FABRE TP office in Brussels (Belgium) and Remote.
- This role requires a presence in or around Brussels, allowing for commuting to/from the office within the day.
- It also requires high flexibility and the willingness to travel frequently (up to 30-40 % of the time)
