About the Organisation

ILGA-Europe is a driving force for political, legal and social change at European and Central Asian level. Our vision is of a world where dignity, freedoms and full enjoyment of human rights are protected and ensured to everyone regardless of their actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics.

ILGA-Europe is comprised of over 700 member organisations throughout Europe and Central Asia. From Iceland to Turkey and Kyrgyzstan to Malta, we work together with extraordinary organisations and activists to bring about real change for LGBTI people. A core part of our work is advancing protections for LGBTI people across the region and supporting the development of strong, skilled and connected movements.

This includes policy and advocacy work, strategic litigation, grant-making, convening, shaping narratives and strategic support to LGBTI organisations and activists. The Individual Giving and Partnerships Manager will contribute directly to this work, with a particular focus on building a broad supporter base and mobilising resources to sustain this work.

ILGA-Europe staff are based in Brussels and work closely with activists and organisations across the region. We value collaboration, shared learning, and creative approaches to supporting social change. The movement and our work are only as strong as our people. We support our staff, and we value the knowledge, experience and commitment they bring to the organisation. ILGA-Europe offers a competitive employment package, including insurance, pension contributions, training opportunities and other benefits. Details are provided at the end of this advertisement.

About the role

We are looking for a bright, ambitious and motivated person to join our team and help grow the power of our supporters, strengthen individual giving and build meaningful partnerships with the private sector. We are looking for an Individual Giving and Partnerships Manager to join ILGA-Europe on an open-ended contract and drive our efforts in supporter mobilisation, individual giving, and private sector partnerships. This role is for someone who is both a strategist and a builder: someone who can design a supporter engagement and giving programme from the ground up, spot the moments in our advocacy, movement building, and campaigning work that move people to act, and turn them into compelling opportunities to give, mobilise and belong.

At ILGA-Europe, giving is never just a transaction. Rooted in our identity as a pan-European advocacy and movement-building organisation, this role harnesses our policy work, campaigns, and network of over 700 member organisations to bring people closer to the cause, create pathways from initial engagement and activism to sustained financial support, and frame giving as an act of solidarity and political agency.

The successful candidate will own our approach for supporter engagement and individual giving, build and grow a monthly supporter programme, deliver digital and email fundraising campaigns, and, to a smaller extent, manage a targeted portfolio of corporate and professional network partnerships, including around our annual European Equality Fundraiser. This is a rare opportunity to build a new area of work within a leading European human rights organisation, at a moment when solidarity with LGBTI communities matters more than ever. The position reports directly to the Executive Director and works in close collaboration with the Communications Team and other teams across the organisation.

The role requires a proactive and collaborative approach to building connections across teams, and a firm commitment to fundraising approaches that are ethical, consistent with ILGA-Europe’s values, and non-extractive in their relationship with member organisations and the wider LGBTI movement.

Responsibilities

As the postholder, you will contribute to ILGA-Europe’s work advancing the rights of LGBTI people and supporting LGBTI movements in Europe and Central Asia, by building a strong and committed supporter base whose engagement and giving strengthen the resourcing, independence and resilience of our work. You will:

  • Develop and own ILGA-Europe’s strategy for supporter engagement and individual giving, including the systems, processes and frameworks needed to deliver it
  • Work closely with colleagues from other teams to identify and activate political moments from our advocacy, campaigning and movement-building work such as legislative milestones, campaign launches, casework, and Rainbow Map releases – as timely, compelling entry points for supporter engagement and giving
  • Design and manage supporter journeys that move people from first engagement to regular financial support, covering acquisition, welcome, stewardship, retention and reactivation
  • Plan and deliver a calendar of email and digital fundraising campaigns, continuously testing and optimising content, donation pages and supporter segments to improve results
  • Oversee the development and management of a CRM/fundraising system, in collaboration with the Finance and Administration Team, ensuring effective tracking, segmentation and reporting, and smooth processing of recurring gifts
  • Identify, cultivate and maintain a targeted portfolio of corporate partnerships and professional networks including employee resource groups (ERGs) and Pride workplace chapters – as sources of strategic cooperation, peer-to-peer fundraising and in-kind support;
  • Coordinate the organisation of fundraising events, including the annual European Equality Fundraiser
  • Support capacity-building on individual and digital fundraising within ILGA-Europe’s membership, in conjunction with the Programmes Team
  • Work closely with colleagues in communications, finance, policy and programmes to ensure supporter-facing narratives are accurate, politically sensitive and compelling.

Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • We are looking for someone creative, strategic, and solid, who combines the ability to harness opportunities from different areas of our work into moments of political mobilisation, and a systematic approach to building relationships and internal systems. To be successful in this role, you should have demonstrated experience and abilities in:
    • Developing, implementing or managing individual giving and mobilisation programmes or strategies, including acquisition, onboarding, stewardship, retention, upgrade strategies, and reactivation of regular (monthly) supporters
    • Identifying and activating political or campaign moments as fundraising and engagement opportunities, including the ability to translate complex policy, advocacy, or political contexts into compelling, accurate supporter communications that create a sense of agency
    • Understanding of the European individual donor fundraising context and culture, and ability to foster a culture of giving where it is not broadly established
    • Planning and executing email fundraising appeals, including audience segmentation, A/B testing, automated journeys and performance analysis
    • Proficiency with CRM and email platforms (Salesforce, Mailchimp or similar)
    • Synthesising information from multiple sources and turning it into clear priorities or messages
    • Ability to write effective fundraising copy – craft supporter-facing narratives that are compelling, politically accurate and sensitive to the diversity of ILGA-Europe’s audience
    • Strong ability to build and cultivate relationships, especially with professional networks or similar communities for peer-to-peer fundraising, individual giving and partnership development; ability to develop and maintain a targeted corporate or institutional partnership portfolio
    • Working directly with LGBTI organisations and/or other marginalised groups, ideally in movement-based or grassroots contexts, or experience working in or alongside human rights, social justice or political advocacy organisations is strongly advantageous
    • Collaborating and communicating proactively and effectively across teams to identify opportunities, align messaging and deliver coordinated campaigns, and with external partners, including supporters, consultants, and activists;
    • Strong data hygiene practices
    • Very good problem-solving skills
    • Ability to take initiative, to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines, to plan and work independently, while being a strong and proactive team player

    • Fluency in English is required.

Additional Experience:

  • Grounded understanding of the LGBTI rights landscape in Europe, including the political dynamics of the EU and Council of Europe, the role of regional and national civil society, and the sensitivities involved in fundraising within a membership-based movement;
  • Awareness of the risk of extractive approaches and commitment to non-extractive practice.
