It acts as the sector’s voice at EU level and works on policy, sustainability, health & safety, product stewardship, industrial competitiveness, and public awareness. The association brings together multiple mineral sectors and companies across Europe.
About the role
IMA-Europe is now seeking an experienced Communication Manager to elevate its communication function to a more strategic, proactive, and high-impact level. IMA-Europe is looking for an experienced, hands-on communication professional capable of designing and executing a modern communication strategy for a European trade association operating in a technical and policy-driven environment.
This is a high-autonomy role for someone who combines strategic thinking, operational excellence, content leadership, digital fluency, and strong execution discipline. The successful candidate will structure and professionalise IMA-Europe’s communications approach, anticipate priorities, develop annual communication plans, strengthen visibility with EU stakeholders, support IMA-Europe’s advocacy objectives, and independently deliver day-to-day outputs.
Responsibilities
Communication Strategy & Planning:
- Design and implement a multi-year communication strategy aligned with IMA-Europe priorities.
- Translate policy, industry and business objectives into clear communication goals.
- Build annual editorial calendars and forward-looking communication plans.
- Introduce KPIs, dashboards and reporting to measure impact.
- Identify reputational risks and opportunities early.
Executive & Institutional Positioning:
- Strengthen IMA-Europe’s visibility among EU institutions, policymakers, media and industry stakeholders.
- Support leadership messaging for the Director General, President and committees.
- Draft speeches, talking points, presentations and strategic narratives.
- Position IMA-Europe as a credible, fact-based and solution-oriented industry voice.
Content Leadership:
- Produce high-level written content including:
- Media: Press releases, Campaign messages; Website content, Newsletters, etc
- Events: Event coordination, Event comm support materials
- Reports: Annual report, Position papers
- Social media: Content and dissemination
- Translate technical, regulatory and scientific topics into clear business language.
Digital & AI-Enabled Communication:
- Lead digital channels including website, LinkedIn, newsletters and stakeholder outreach.
- Use AI tools to improve productivity, analytics, content production, monitoring and campaign efficiency.
- Apply data-driven methods to optimise engagement and visibility.
- Manage CRM/email tools and audience segmentation where relevant.
Campaigns & Advocacy Support:
- Build communication campaigns around EU legislative files, sustainability priorities and industry milestones.
- Coordinate messages across members and mineral sections where appropriate.
- Support events, conferences, launches and policy moments with professional communication packages.
Brand & Reputation Management:
- Refresh and maintain IMA-Europe’s visual branding throughout communication standards.
- Ensure message quality, clarity and consistency across all outputs.
- Prepare crisis / reactive communication protocols when required.
Autonomous Delivery:
- Manage the full communication cycle independently: planning, drafting, publishing, reporting.
- Coordinate external suppliers (designers, agencies, web developers) when needed.
- Prioritise workload effectively in a fast-moving Brussels environment.
Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes
Experience:
- 8+ years of professional experience in communications.
- Strong preference for experience in:
- EU trade associations
- Brussels public affairs environment
- Industrial / manufacturing/energy / raw materials sectors
- Technical B2B organisations
Skills:
- Excellent strategic communication judgement.
- Outstanding writing and editing skills in English.
- Ability to simplify complex technical and regulatory matters.
- Strong project management discipline.
- Proven experience building communication plans from scratch.
- Confident stakeholder management with senior executives and member companies.
- Strong digital communication capability.
- AI-savvy and comfortable using modern productivity tools.
- Self-starter able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Languages:
- Native or near-native English essential.
- French and/or other EU languages are an advantage.
Personal Qualities:
- Mature, credible and diplomatic.
- Pragmatic and execution-oriented.
- Calm under pressure.
- Politically aware.
- Curious about industry, sustainability and European policy.
- High ownership mentality
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Communication or Journalism, with other relevant degrees to be considered; a qualification in Information is a plus
