Content Operations Manager
The Law Society
About the Organisation
Law Society represents solicitors in England and Wales. From negotiating with and lobbying the profession's regulators, government, and others, to offering training and advice, we're here to help, protect, and promote solicitors across England and Wales. An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit for a role at the heart of the Law Society's campaigning and political influencing activity.
The Law Society is the independent professional body for over 200,000 solicitors in England and Wales. A year into the new government, there is a significant opportunity to influence the political debate, drive important issues such as access to justice, the rule of law, and a thriving legal business sector up the agenda, and influence policy on behalf of our members.
About the role
This is a new role and an opportunity to build the Content Operations function that will make content planning work better across the Law Society. You will run the shared planning system that connects content work across teams, bringing clarity to priorities, strengthening the route from brief to publication and keeping member need at the centre of decisions.
Reporting to the Head of Content & Digital, you will lead quarterly planning and prioritisation sessions, manage the cross-team planner and briefing process, and use sound editorial judgement to help colleagues make fair, transparent choices when priorities compete. You will spot delays and dependencies early, bring the right people together to unblock them and improve the workflows content moves through.
You will also line manage the Content Operations Executive and help colleagues understand and use Content Operations as a practical service, not a gatekeeping function. This isn't a content-producing role. It calls for someone who combines editorial judgement, process rigour and confident facilitation, and who can build trusted relationships across a complex organisation.
Responsibilities
Core Duties:
- Manage the shared cross-team planner as the single, trusted view of what content is being produced across the organisation, for whom and when.
- Facilitate the quarterly priority-setting rhythm: prepare and lead content planning sessions, help teams reach agreed priorities, and make sure decisions are recorded and visible.
- Use the planner to surface delays and cross-team blockers early, convening the right people and escalating as needed to keep work moving without taking delivery off the teams who own it.
- Own the content briefing and triage process, so work enters the system with a clear audience, purpose, and owner.
- Maintain consistent standards for how content moves from brief to publication across formats and teams.
- Map and improve the workflows content runs through, using the planning tools and working with IT/Data to enable automation as necessary.
- Act as the working-level point of contact for content planning across missions and teams, building the relationships that keep the system trusted and used.
- Make sure planning decisions start from member/business need, keeping the audience segment views front and centre in how priorities are set.
- Provide evidence of what each quarter's choices achieve, drawing together reporting produced by the data team and our own digital analytics capability rather than building new reporting.
- Provide a fair and transparent way of deciding when priorities compete, so shared priorities are set by agreement rather than by whoever's deadline is loudest.
- Line manage the Content Operations Executive, setting clear priorities and supporting their development.
- Champion the function across the organisation, helping teams understand what Content Operations does (and doesn't do), so it's used as a service rather than seen as a gatekeeper.
- Support the Head of Content & Digital on wider content operations and planning work as required.
