About the Organisation
British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in the UK and Ireland. Our organisation aims to improve the mental health of people across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland by advancing research and promoting excellence in CBT and related professions. We have more than 27,000 members across the UK, Ireland and overseas, and a staff team who work remotely.
We deliver a wide range of events via online and in-person CPD sessions and two conferences which support the professional development of members and non-members, whilst sharing best practice, showcasing research and creating valuable networking opportunities.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Conference and Events Manager to provide interim cover for our conference and events function. The postholder will oversee the work of the Events team, consisting of an Events Coordinator and Events Administrator who are responsible for supporting the overall events programme.
In addition, for the Conference Provision, there is a longstanding Volunteer Conference Organiser who holds significant institutional knowledge, an external Professional Conference Organiser (PCO) and a National Conferences Programme Advisory Group (NCPAG), who lead the process of determining academic content for the conferences. Your role will be the staff lead to help shape future provision, hold key relationships and ensure the development of a successful 2027 event.
Responsibilities
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support evaluation and lessons learned from the July conference and make recommendations for future delivery.
- Work with the Volunteer Conference Organiser to document processes, ways of working and institutional knowledge
- Work with the relevant committees and working groups to determine roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders.
- Support the transition of conference activity to an in-house staff model covering each aspect of Conference Organisation including: governance, delegate experience, operations, communications, exhibition, technical delivery, and evaluation.
- Develop and deliver an annual events calendar including branch and SIG events, workshops and specialised programmes.
- Work with key staff to determine the budget needs for event delivery and reconciliation post-event.
- Ensure that the Conference and Events provision meets the needs of the membership profile, Accreditation and Registration and BABCP Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
- Report on event performance, use feedback and data to make informed decisions
- Oversee policy and procedures for the delivery of quality events and delegate experience.
- Lead and report to relevant working groups connected to Conference and Events activity.
- Develop the service provision and potential for innovation to support the delegate experience and income generation.
Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes
Experience:
- Significant experience of planning and delivering conferences and events from end to end, including in-person, hybrid and online formats.
- Experience of managing multiple priorities and operational detail.
- Experience of budget monitoring and financial oversight.
- Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leaders, committees, members, speakers, volunteers and external suppliers.
- Experience of using feedback and data to inform future improvement.
- Experience of supporting organisational change, service transition or process improvement.
- Experience of working in a membership body, professional association, charity or healthrelated organisation.
Skills & Abilities:
- Good understanding of conference and event management best practice including accessibility, inclusion, health and safety, risk and delegate experience.
- A collaborative, proactive and hands-on approach, with the ability to build trust and work calmly under pressure.
- Knowledge of continuing professional development requirements or accredited professional education.
- Knowledge of the CBT, mental health or wider professional membership landscape.

Required Qualifications
- Higher level qualification in related field (Event Management, etc) is desirable, not essential; we value equivalent professional experience

- Requirements to travel to meetings across the UK and Republic of Ireland.
