Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) is the representative organization of bars and law societies from 45 countries across Europe, including all EU member states and several non-EU countries. Founded in 1960, the CCBE plays a vital role in promoting the views of European lawyers and upholding the core values of the legal profession, particularly in relation to the rule of law, human rights, and democratic principles.
About the role
The Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) is looking for a Communications Officer to enhance its strategic communication, engagement, and outreach efforts. As a representative body, the CCBE plays a vital role in defending the rule of law, human rights, and access to justice.
As Communications Officer, you will work closely with the Digital Communications Officer and Legal & Communications Advisor, under the supervision of the Head of Public Affairs. Your role will be instrumental in strengthening the CCBE’s visibility, engagement, and influence across various platforms. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in the same or similar position, excellent strategic, organisational, and IT skills, and the ability to reach the desired internal and external audience.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- External communication: support the organisation’s outreach efforts, ensuring impactful messaging and engagement;
- Member communication: enhance and optimise communication with CCBE members, fostering stronger engagement and collaboration;
- EU relations assist in CCBE communications aimed at European institutions and stakeholders;
- Media relations build and manage relationships with journalists and key media outlets to amplify the CCBE’s messaging;
- Internal workflows help optimise the use of IT tools to streamline the CCBE’s internal workflow and improve communication processes;
- Event management assists in organising high-level events, conferences, and public engagements;
- Executive support provides communication assistance to the Secretary-General and Presidency for external interventions and international engagements, including identifying speaking opportunities, organising meetings, and coordinating participation in international events.
Skills, Competencies, & Experience
Education & Experience:
- Minimum of two years of work experience in a communications role.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Proven experience in communication strategy in outreach activities towards the European institutions;
- Experience and strong interest in digital tools and project management is an asset;
- Experience working with a member-based organisation is an advantage;
- Proficiency in English or French, with a working knowledge of the other language.

Required Qualifications
- A university or specialised degree in communication or a relevant field from a recognised academic institution.
