How do you start to become a better presenter?
Hi there, I’m John Scarrott Communication Skills Trainer and ICF Credentialed Coach.
How do you start to become a better presenter?
There are three ideas to have in your mind will get you off to a good start.
They are:
1. “I can learn this.”
2. “There’s a process.”
And
3. “It’s ok to work on it.”
Here’s a bit more on each.
Firstly: “I can LEARN this”.
This is the realisation that presenters are not born, but made. You are not barred from this room. The door is open. If you are prepared to step through it. This is about possibility.
Secondly: “There is a step-by-step process that will support me to present better”.
This is where possibility meets practicality. There’s work involved. And a clear roadmap for the work. This will make it easier to cover the ground.
The third realisation: “It’s ok to do this work”, is about giving yourself permission to start.
There’s no shame or embarrassment here. Working on your presentation skills is just as legitimate as any other work you do. It’s ok to talk and be open about it.
Becoming a better presenter starts with these three realisations.
Have them in your mind and you’ll unlock possibility, practicality and permission. And be on the road to becoming the presenter you want to be.
