About the role

SIA has a large and established portfolio of charitable trusts and foundations funding our vital services for people affected by spinal cord injury. We are looking for a proactive, motivated individual to coordinate the trust team's activity. You will work alongside another part-time trusts and grants coordinator and jointly supervise the trusts and grants officer.  As trusts and grants coordinator, you will work with staff across the organisation to submit persuasive bids, grow and diversify our portfolio of funders, and strengthen our relationships with donors. 

Responsibilities

Prospect Research and Bid Development:

  • Write and present the work of SIA in an engaging and appropriate style for trust supporters, using qualitative information and quantitative data
  • Submit persuasive funding applications to regional and national funders for a range of projects and services
  • Lead on the monthly trusts plan alongside the other trusts and grants coordinator, delegating activities to the trusts and grants officer and acting in a supervisory support role
  • Identify and develop a pipeline of funding opportunities, using research tools.
  • Ensure potential and existing trust donors are fully informed about the work of SIA and that all approaches reflect the strategic priorities of the organisation.
  • Support the trusts and grants manager with the development of new projects and bids, in line with organisation -wide priorities and opportunities

Relationship Management:

  • Work with colleagues across the charity to obtain information required for cases for support, stewardship activities and funder reports
  • Support and supervise the trusts and grants officer in their bid writing, prospecting, reporting and stewardship of trusts
  • Develop and implement stewardship plans for current and prospective funders to develop donor relationships, working with other teams where necessary
  • Build relationships with funders through the delivery of quality and timely reports, showing the impact of their support
  • Develop strong working relationships with colleagues to ensure up-to-date knowledge of the charity’s services and of new developments

Administration & Reporting:

  • Work alongside the other trusts and grants coordinators to maintain the monthly trusts plan, coordinating activities of the trusts and grants team
  • Keep accurate records of all grants, working with colleagues to ensure that conditions are met
  • Administer income received and ensure donations are acknowledged in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Use SIA’s CRM system (Microsoft Dynamics 365) to record and manage funder records, including contact details, grant criteria, upcoming deadlines, grant agreements, and submissions of applications and reports.

Reporting & Teamwork:

  • Line -manage the trusts and grants officer and support their development
  • Engage in line management, supervision, and annual performance appraisal with the trusts and grants manager
  • Work closely with the trusts and grants manager in planning, prioritising, and implementing trust fundraising duties
  • Liaise with the finance team to access and provide income and budget information as required to support trust fundraising activity
  • Share information with colleagues within the fundraising and partnerships team to support
  • Represent the trusts and grants team at internal and external meetings and events as required
  • Undertake relevant statutory and personal development training necessary to the achievement of agreed targets.

Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in writing project proposals and reports
  • Track record of securing donations and grants
  • Experience in establishing and managing effective relationships with funders
  • Proactive approach to research and using research tools
  • Experience in recording and reporting financial and numerical data
  • Experience of line -managing or supervising colleagues/volunteers
  • Knowledge and understanding of charitable trusts and relevant fundraising trends and legislation

Professional Skills:

  • A high standard of written and spoken English
  • A high standard of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly, verbally and in writing
  • Effective team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills, with the ability to multitask
  • Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Experience using creative programmes such as Canva
  • Ability to use a CRM database to manage donor relationships and fundraising activity
