About the Organisation
Biochemical Society promotes the future of molecular biosciences, facilitating the sharing of expertise, supporting the advancement of biochemistry and molecular biology, and raising awareness of their importance in addressing societal grand challenges. The Biochemical Society’s training programme aims to support the next generation of biochemists and provide opportunities for people of all ages and experience to explore and engage with molecular bioscience. The current programmes include some live face-to-face or online training events and a number of self-led online training courses.
About the role
The Training Manager role is an exciting opportunity to lead and deliver on agreed strategy across our current and future programme of training events, activities and resources, and plays a key role in taking the Society’s training programme forward. Reporting directly to the Director of Events and Training, and in collaboration with the wider staff team, the Training Manager will be responsible for the delivery and development of existing training programmes, the creation and implementation of exclusive members-only training opportunities to enhance our membership offering, and devising and implementing new training courses by working with volunteers to develop appropriate content. All of this should contribute to generating significant income to fund the delivery of the Society’s wider charitable work.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver surplus-generating training, to include both established and new training programmes
- Set up and lead all stages of delivering new training, from conception to delivery, including working with subject matter experts to explore and pilot new ideas, providing them with guidance and support
- Lead the delivery of insight-gathering from members, other organisations and wider target markets to understand training needs and gaps and to inform the design of suitable training programmes
- Lead high-quality content development for new training courses, together with processes to ensure the content is kept up to date
- Ensure appropriate feedback is gathered, and correct monitoring, evaluation and analysis processes are in place for using this data effectively to inform future changes or ideas
- Work in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team to build effective marketing campaigns for our training offerings
- Ensure registrations, including enquiries, payment and data monitoring, are processed effectively
- Oversee day-to-day management of the Learning Management System (LMS)
- Maintain and edit the training-related pages of the Society’s website
- Manage budgets through monthly feedback on the finance year-to-date sheets and feed into the annual budget setting
- With colleagues, manage relevant committees to help achieve strategic aims and progress activities
- Undertake any other reasonable duties which may arise, and which are commensurate with the general level of the post and as requested by the Director of Events and Training
Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes
Essential:
- Enthusiasm for working on a new strategic priority, where you will be developing the offer
- Demonstrable success in project management and successful delivery of complex projects involving multiple stakeholders
- Strong commercial mindset and budget management experience
- Experience in developing/delivering income and surplus-generating activities
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a confident approach in dealing with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders
- Experience in developing and delivering successful programmes of training courses and similar across multiple platforms
- Able to show a broad understanding and interest in the molecular biosciences
- Strong level of IT literacy and administrative skills
- Rigorous attention to detail.
Desirable:
- Experience with learning management systems
- Experience in researching markets for opportunities to exploit
- Experience of CPD and/or other accreditation models
- Experience in delivering science-based training
- Experience of evaluating projects/programmes
- Knowledge of GDPR and other organisational compliance issues
Required Qualifications
- Degree in life sciences or related STEM subject
