About the role

Senior HR Officer to help create a workplace in which talented, purpose-driven colleagues can thrive. Based in our Brussels Secretariat, you’ll be at the heart of the EEB’s operations and play a key role in supporting staff across Belgium and other EU countries, ensuring they feel welcomed, supported, and empowered.

We are looking for an experienced HR professional who enjoys combining solid technical knowledge with a people-centred approach. We also welcome candidates with a minimum of three years’ experience who may join as an HR Officer, with the opportunity to grow into a senior role.

Responsibilities

Time Tracking & Payroll:

  • Oversee the time-tracking system and payroll processes for colleagues in Belgium, France, Italy, and Germany
  • Support staff in time-tracking and leave requests

HR Policies & Compliance:

  • Stay up to date with developments in Belgian employment law
  • Contribute to and eventually take the lead on drafting, reviewing, and implementing HR policies and work regulations

General HR Administration:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records
  • Respond to staff questions on benefits, leave, contracts, salaries, and internal policies
  • Support the calculation of staff costs and collaborate closely with the Finance team

Recruitment & Onboarding:

  • Support hiring teams throughout the recruitment process
  • Manage job ad publication and coordinate the application and interview process
  • Prepare job offers and ensure a smooth onboarding and offboarding experience

Training & Development:

  • Work with the Head of HR and Admin in implementing the annual training plan
  • Facilitate the Annual Performance Review cycle
  • Health & Safety (Prevention Advisor)
  • Work alongside the other Prevention Advisor to implement health and safety regulations and ensure a safe, supportive working environment

Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes

Expected Skills & Experience:

  • At least five years of relevant HR experience.
  • Strong understanding of Belgian employment law and an interest in keeping up with new developments.
  • Hands-on experience managing Belgian payroll and related HR processes.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and implementing HR policies.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a sharp eye for detail.
  • Is fluent in spoken and written English (most of us are non-native speakers, and we love accents; what we expect is the ability to explain complex topics clearly to colleagues).
  • Cares about the environment and subscribes to the EEB’s values.

Assets:

  • Accredited Prevention Advisor with experience working on prevention.
  • Experience managing contracts and payroll in other European countries.
  • Working knowledge of French and Dutch, with any other language skills being appreciated.
  • Experience working for non-profits.

Compensation & Benefits

  • 20 days of legal leave, we offer 5 days of extra-legal leave during the winter break closure, 5 days of extra-legal leave anytime in the year, and 2 days of extra-legal leave for office-wide long weekends in spring and autumn, that is, a total of 32 paid leave days. (plus other forms of paid leave under certain conditions, such as leave for compelling reasons or additional leave offered when having worked with the EEB for 4+ years).
  • Possibility to work from home 2 days a week and from another EU country for up to six weeks per year.

Conditions of employment
