European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), established in 1962 and based in Brussels, is a non-profit, pan-European clinical research organization. It conducts translational and clinical trials to improve survival and quality of life for cancer patients, focusing on developing new drugs, surgical techniques, and radiotherapy strategies.
To increase cancer survival rates and patient quality of life, specializing in multi-centre clinical trials that span across national borders. Comprises over 2,500 clinical investigators and researchers across more than 350 hospitals and institutions in over 30 countries, forming a large, coordinated research network.
About the role
The Engagement & Partnerships Officer – Philanthropy focus supports the growth of EORTC’s philanthropic income by identifying, cultivating, and stewarding high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) and major donors. The role focuses primarily on building a strong pipeline of HNWI prospects and supporting their engagement with EORTC’s mission.
Over time, the position will also contribute to the development of relationships with philanthropic foundations and support the gradual establishment of EORTC’s legacy giving programme. Working closely with the Head of Engagement & Partnerships, the role contributes to revenue growth and long-term philanthropic engagement in support of international clinical cancer research.
Responsibilities
Fundraising & Revenue Generation:
- Identify and research HNWIs, philanthropic prospects, and relevant foundations aligned with EORTC’s mission.
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified prospects through research, outreach, and networking.
- Support the cultivation and solicitation of major donors in collaboration with the Head of Engagement & Partnerships.
- Contribute to the identification and preparation of foundation funding opportunities where appropriate.
- Contribute to the early development of EORTC’s legacy giving programme by identifying potential legacy prospects within the major donor pipeline and supporting the development of initial materials and approaches.
- Prepare donor briefings, proposals, and follow-up materials for meetings.
Donor Stewardship & Relationship Management:
- Manage and steward an assigned portfolio of donors in coordination with the team.
- Ensure timely and personalised donor communications, including acknowledgements, updates and impact reports.
- Contribute to the development of meaningful donor engagement opportunities (events, meetings, briefings).
Communications & Campaigns Support:
- Provide content input (stories, patient impact examples, visuals) for fundraising campaigns and donor communications.
- Work closely with the team to ensure consistent messaging aligned with donor priorities.
- Support the preparation of fundraising materials such as presentations, donor briefs and case-for-support documents.
Pipeline Management & CRM:
- Track prospects and donor engagement activities in the CRM system.
- Maintain accurate records of donor interactions and pipeline progress.
- Coordinate with the team’s administrative support to ensure data quality and reporting accuracy.
Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes
Required:
- 3-6 years of experience in fundraising, philanthropy, partnerships or high-value relationship management
- Experience in engaging HNWIs or managing high-value client relationships
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted long-term relationships
- High level of discretion and professionalism
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Language: English at a very good level
Desirable:
- Experience with philanthropic foundations or grant funding
- Exposure to legacy giving or planned giving initiatives
- Background in private banking, wealth management, luxury client relations or similar high-value relationship environments
- Interest in healthcare, science or philanthropic impact
- Language: French and Dutch
