About the role
The College delivers two core online learning resources (CPD eLearning and MRCPsych eLearning [formerly Trainees Online]), as well as several other eLearning projects based on these, hosted on our eLearning Hub. The eLearning Designer will use their initiative and instructional design experience to work closely with subject matter experts to develop content for interactive resources, while ensuring they are prepared to the highest standards of presentation, accuracy, and educational value.
They will transform detailed or technical information into clear, engaging learning experiences and make sure the content is accessible, user-friendly, and aligned with RCPsych standards. They will use their initiative and experience in new media to help authors produce effective and innovative digital learning resources and engage in testing and making improvements based on feedback.
Experience with Articulate Storyline is essential. We are keen to recruit an enthusiastic, creative individual who will work collaboratively and effectively with the team, internal stakeholders, and subject matter experts, and is passionate about producing high-quality online learning content for our members.
The eLearning Designer is responsible for the design and development of instructional materials. They will use their initiative and instructional design experience to work closely with subject matter experts across CPD eLearning, MRCPsych eLearning, and other eLearning projects to design the learning journey for interesting, engaging, and interactive resources, while ensuring they are prepared to the highest standards of presentation, accuracy and educational value.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- To be responsible for the design and development of educational content published on the eLearning Hub, to include:
- Holding initial meetings with subject matter experts to guide on content gathering and module development protocol
- Assessing engagement and instructional effectiveness of scripted content and existing modules
- Shaping, creating, and developing storyboards from source material for interactive educational online modules using Articulate 360, as well as the Adobe CC suite
- Ensuring that the scientific content is accurate and reasonable
- Copy-editing and proofreading for style, grammar, and consistency
- Conducting plagiarism/originality checks
- Maintaining house style
- Assessing artwork and sourcing or creating illustrations and
- Multimedia where appropriate
- Designing and building interactive exercises
- Aiding in the development of assessments on the material
- Collaborating with the wider editorial team on the development of an online resource from a script
- Implementing authors’ corrections at the proof/testing stage
- Quality assuring the work of other editors and providing constructive feedback.
- Assist contributors where appropriate in the preparation of video and audio files, provide other technical advice, and produce and edit audio and visual content where necessary.
- Advise contributors where appropriate on the use of the content management system for uploading material.
- Align project scopes and resources to meet production timelines.
- Research and implement new initiatives to enhance learning engagement, including making design enhancements to templates, in consultation with the eLearning Manager.
- Collaborate with the freelance team to ensure consistency around best practice and assist with editorial queries in consultation with the eLearning Manager.
- Help monitor and contribute to social media and marketing activities.
- To help monitor rival or complementary systems.
- Action content fixes and responds to learner feedback as necessary.
- Assist with other eLearning-related work as directed by the eLearning Manager.

Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes
Essential:
- Knowledge of educational principles and best practices as applied to the online environment.
- Experience in collaborating and consulting with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts.
- Visual design skills and the ability to storyboard.
- Experience in developing courses in Articulate Storyline 360.
- Excellent writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisational skills with an ability to keep to tight deadlines.

- Experience in video and audio editing, and an enthusiasm for web technologies.

- Experience with learning management systems (D2L Brightspace).
