About the Organisation
We are the professional body for over 14,000 Scottish solicitors. As well as setting standards for and regulating solicitors to ensure the provision of excellent legal services and that the public can have confidence in Scotland’s legal profession, we work to influence the creation of a fairer and more just society through active engagement with the Scottish and United Kingdom governments, parliaments, wider stakeholders, and our membership.
We also provide wide-ranging support to help our members thrive through our CPD programme, member services, and engagement. We engage with schools through our Street Law and Scotland-wide school debating tournament, and engage with law students throughout their legal education journey.
About the role
It is an exciting time to join the Law Society of Scotland. We have an opportunity within the Education, Training and Qualifications team for an Administrator. This role is varied but exists principally to provide administrative support for processes that regulate trainee and qualified solicitors. The role involves administering the process for solicitors to complete their admission as a Notary Public. This includes managing a schedule of appointments and ensuring that associated documents are uploaded to solicitors’ records, as well as responding to questions about the process.
The role also involves assisting with processes relating to the regulation of trainee solicitors. This includes regular contact with solicitors, trainee solicitors and students, explaining the stages of the regulatory process to them, processing online applications and updating their records. The role holder will also assist with processes relating to solicitors qualifying as Solicitor Advocates.
The wider work of the Education, Training and Qualifications team is varied and includes setting standards for the route to qualification; regulation of and support for trainee solicitors; schools outreach; engagement with students, trainees and newly qualified solicitors; equality and diversity; and career development accreditations and qualifications. At the centre of our organisation are the values of Respect, Openness, Progress, Inclusion, and Integrity, which drive our teams to deliver the best possible service for the legal sector and beyond.
