We are the professional body for over 14,000 Scottish solicitors. As well as setting standards for and regulating solicitors to ensure the provision of excellent legal services and that the public can have confidence in Scotland’s legal profession, we work to influence the creation of a fairer and more just society through active engagement with the Scottish and United Kingdom governments, parliaments, wider stakeholders, and our membership.
We also provide wide-ranging support to help our members thrive through our CPD programme, member services, and engagement. We engage with schools through our Street Law and Scotland-wide school debating tournament, and engage with law students throughout their legal education journey.
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Digital Content Executive to join the Law Society of Scotland. We are seeking a motivated, creative, and high-performing professional to join our Communications Team, bringing their skills, expertise, and flair for visual storytelling to help us evolve our communications and engagement and drive continuous improvement.
The Digital Content Executive reports into the Head of Communications and plays a central role within a communications team with a wide and varied remit. The team is responsible for informing and engaging our audiences, including Law Society of Scotland members, the media, public, parliamentarians, in addition to our internal stakeholders, who include colleagues, our governing Council, and committees.
You will play a key and specialist role within the Communications Team as we seek to maximise engagement with our audiences across a range of channels, including social media, video, podcasts, and print. We want you to bring your creativity, skills, and expertise to help us evolve our communications and engagement by providing innovative and engaging design, graphics, photography, and video content that is going to get us noticed.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Create, produce, and manage innovative and engaging content and design work, for example, graphics, animation, photography, video, and podcasts, to use across all our digital channels
- Work collaboratively across the Communications Team and the organisation in providing high-quality visual content to support our stakeholder engagement across all our channels, for example, website, social media, email engagement, and intranet
- Ensure all visual content is on brand and maintains our brand reputation by collaborating with our Marketing Team colleagues
- Use data and insights to analyse, evolve, plan, implement, and evaluate our visual content in collaboration with Communications Team colleagues and make and implement recommendations for continuous improvement
- Develop a digital content strategy and subsequent annual plans to evolve our content and our audience’s engagement with our content, across all our digital channels
- Deputise for the Digital Communications Executive as required
- Carry out any other reasonable duties that may be required by the Head of Communications
Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes
Experience:
- Experience in designing creative and innovative digital content, including graphics, infographics, videos, podcasts, animations, and more
- Experience of working in a busy communications and marketing team, either in-house or in a creative and communications agency
Knowledge & Skills:
- Ability to harness the power of effective visual content creation and management to support our strategic objectives
- Ability to get to the heart of a story and create and produce visual content that will inspire and engage our stakeholder audiences
- Ability to swiftly gather and assess sometimes complex information to create appropriate and effective content to engage audiences using the most appropriate channels
- Ability to deliver a data-driven content strategy and plans to amplify our work and influence change
- Ability to use design packages such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and After Effects) and Canva to create high-quality digital content.
- Ability to plan, film, and edit video content for use across our communication channels.
- Ability to organise and prioritise work and meet deadlines.

Desirable:
- Membership of a professional body such as the Chartered Society of Designers, the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, the Public Relations and Communications Association, the Chartered Institute of Marketing, the Marketing Society, Digital Marketing Institute
- Experience in developing, executing and evaluating digital content across a variety of platforms and channels
- Experience of continuous improvement across digital engagement and communications activities, including outcomes
- Experience in managing social media, websites and email marketing for both business and consumer audiences.
Other:
- Prepared to undertake some evening and out of normal hours working if necessary
- Willingness to undertake very occasional travel within the UK
Required Qualifications
- Qualification in graphic design, digital media, marketing communications-related discipline, and equivalent, relevant training and experience
