About the role

We’re seeking a creative, enthusiastic and effective website and social media professional to join our communications team. Reporting to the Digital Communications Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing the charity’s online presence. You might already have some experience of using websites and social media platforms in a professional capacity in your current role, or you’ll be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge and innovative use of social media and CMS platforms.

To enhance Headway UK’s online presence by creating compelling and engaging content, including reels and shorts, tailored for online audiences, while supporting the development and maintenance of the charity’s website. This role will focus on driving digital engagement, increasing awareness of brain injury, and expanding Headway UK’s reach across multiple platforms through innovative content strategies and effective day-to-day management of social media channels.

Responsibilities

Key Areas of Accountability:

  • Use innovative techniques to grow the charity’s social media, email marketing and web presence, through the creation and optimisation of engaging content in a variety of formats.
  • Continuously monitor emerging social media trends and platforms and assess their suitability to reach key audience members in the brain injury community.
  • Use your expertise to schedule engaging content to promote Headway UK and raise awareness of brain injury
  • Monitor and reply to comments and messages on Headway UK’s social media networks, including its online discussion forum.
  • Analyse social media engagement data to extract actionable insights and create detailed reports that inform strategy and improve engagement.
  • Be a passionate advocate for social media and digital communications across the Headway network.
  • Use your passion for communicating with people to raise awareness by developing and telling the stories of brain injury survivors and their loved ones.
  • Use your digital communication skills to facilitate internal communications, organising CEO online briefings and quarterly staff bulletins.
  • Manage the day-to-day stewardship of Headway UK’s ambassadors and influencers, building strong relationships, coordinating content opportunities, and ensuring consistent, values-led representation across digital channels

Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly creative and imaginative.
  • A passion for social media and digital communications.
  • Experience in creating and posting engaging content for websites and various social media platforms.
  • Ability to tailor messages to suit different audiences and formats.
  • An understanding of the latest trends/developments in social media communications.
  • An understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of different social networks.
  • Experience of at least one website content management system (CMS), for instance
  • WordPress, Drupal, Umbraco.
  • An understanding of basic HTML and CSS. Essential Application
  • An understanding of search engine optimisation (SEO) techniques and an enthusiasm for continuous development in this field.
  • Ability to analyse data to measure effectiveness.
  • Ability to deal with confidential tasks in a discreet manner.
  • Ability to prioritise demanding workloads and work under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
  • An enthusiastic team player with a ‘can-do’ attitude.

  • Experience using Google Analytics and social media analytics tools to measure performance.
  • Proven desire to work in the third sector and a willingness to learn about brain injury and its effects.
  • An understanding of data protection regulations and the legal requirements for handling sensitive information.

Required Qualifications

  • A digital marketing-related qualification. Desirable Application
  • An English language-related qualification at grade C (equivalent) and above
