About the role

As digital communications officer at ADS, you’ll work as part of a busy communications team, delivering digital communications to our members in the South West, Scotland and Northern Ireland. As the trade association for the UK’s aerospace, defence, security and space industries, your work will help shape our relationship with our members locally. In particular, you’ll work across our range of digital channels, including industry-leading newsletters, social media channels and our website.

Our ideal candidate is a proactive team player with some experience in communicating to a wide variety of audiences. You’ll have an eye for detail and storytelling abilities to ensure the continued success of the ADS brand. You will report directly to the Head of External Communications, working closely with the Directors of our Regional offices, as well as the Director of External Affairs for ADS Regions. Please note that regular domestic travel to ADS’ regional offices will form part of this role, and all travel expenses will be reimbursed. 

Responsibilities

Key Success Measures:

  • Build solid relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure coherent, aligned communications delivery
  • Increased engagement with regional communications channels, including social media following and newsletter read rates
  • Delivery of tailored communications to ADS’ regional members 

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Building the ADS South West, Northern Ireland and Scotland social media presence, generating social media content for LinkedIn, regular blogs, and our podcast
  • Lead delivery of monthly newsletter activity, including for ADS South West, Northern Ireland and Scotland, using email marketing software dotDigital 
  • Manage and produce content for the ADS South West LinkedIn channel, ensuring regular, high-quality engagement 
  • Establish and develop dedicated ADS Northern Ireland and ADS Scotland digital channels, including LinkedIn, focusing on community management and content creation
  • Provide written communications support, including speechwriting  for events, producing briefing materials, and coordinating member-facing communications 
  • Adapt and localise ADS content such as messaging and social media graphics for regional audiences while maintaining consistency with national messaging and brand voice
  • Support regional media activity and events where appropriate, working closely with colleagues and stakeholders

  • ADS Communications team 
  • Regional ADS teams in the South West, Scotland and Northern Ireland 
  • Regional directors for External Relations, Regional Operations and Partnerships 

Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes

Essential Skills & Experience:    

  • More than 2 years of experience in marketing communications 
  • Clear ability to manage multiple communications projects simultaneously, with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines and deliver high-quality outputs in a fast-paced, stakeholder-driven environment
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across internal teams (including senior stakeholders) and adapt communication approaches for different audiences and regional contexts.
  • Exceptional written communication and copywriting skills, with a proven ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging and audience-appropriate content across a range of formats 
  • Understanding of social media platforms, including LinkedIn, X and Instagram 
  • Genuine interest in, or willingness to quickly build knowledge of, the aerospace, defence, security and space sectors and the role of a trade association in representing industry.
  • Experience working with content management systems such as WordPress and familiarity with website content publishing processes
  • Experience creating digital assets and visual content using tools such as Canva, Adobe InDesign or Photoshop to support social media and campaign delivery

Required Qualifications

  • Either a degree in a related subject (Communications, Politics, English, Marketing, etc)
