About the Organisation

At T&E, we believe the future of transport is inseparable from the future of energy. Our vision is bold: We want to move away from fossil fuels and clean up the energy that powers transport. We need to transform the way we power the aviation and shipping sectors and turn vehicles into assets for the electricity grid, enabled by a dynamic, smart, and renewables-based power system.

About the role

Want to help clean up car manufacturing and shape the future of the automotive industry? Transport & Environment (T&E), Europe’s leading clean transport think tank and campaign group, is looking for a passionate and strategic senior expert to drive the transition towards clean electric car manufacturing.

As Automotive Lead, you will drive forward T&E’s work on the global transformation of the automotive sector towards electric vehicles. This is a unique opportunity to lead T&E's work on automotive industry accountability, engage with key industry players and policy-makers, take part in high-profile public activities, and push for systemic change in the automotive industry.

  • Automotive transition accountability: Lead T&E’s work as the global automotive industry watchdog, tracking automaker EV readiness, strategies, and progress. Develop public-facing reports and narratives.
  • Global strategic leadership: Expand T&E’s reach beyond the EU, assessing EV adoption trends and policies in China, the US, and emerging markets.
  • Strategic advisory: Provide guidance and briefings to the Brussels and national teams, ensuring T&E’s advocacy is rooted in deep industrial reality.
  • Project coordination: Coordinate projects on automotive transformation, working across teams, T&E members, and national experts.
  • Policy and advocacy: Shape EU policy by designing and executing advocacy strategies. Support the building and implementation of national strategies in key national markets, such as France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the UK, and Poland.
  • Narrative and public messaging: Craft compelling political narratives, engage in high-profile public activities, including media and political communications.
  • Stakeholder representation: Represent T&E in external engagements, building partnerships with EU policymakers, industry stakeholders, and NGOs.

Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes

Essential Requirements:

  • At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in industry and automotive policy.
  • Industry expertise: Experience within the automotive industry or a consultancy. Ideally, working on automotive policies and having a good understanding of how policies affect the automotive industry.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills: Ability to work with policymakers, industry experts, and NGOs.
  • Analytical & strategic thinking: Ability to grasp complex issues and translate them into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Project management skills: Experience managing programs across multiple teams.
