ACI Europe represents over 600 airports in 55 countries. Our members facilitate over 95% of commercial air traffic in Europe. Air transport supports 14 million jobs, generating €851 billion in European economic activity (5% of GDP). In response to the Climate Emergency, in June 2019, our members committed to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions for operations under their control by 2050, without offsetting. Based in Brussels, we lead and serve the European airport industry and maintain strong links with other ACI regions throughout the world.
About the role
ACI EUROPE is hiring a Director of Airport Economics responsible for economic policy, competition, connectivity and state aid, reporting to the Deputy Director General.
Responsibilities
- Promote, through ACI EUROPE, the interests of more than 550 European airports towards EU institutions, national regulators, and the media;
- Provide high-quality support to members through research on air transport markets, air connectivity, state aid, financial analysis, and benchmarking of European airports;
- Provide strategic economic insights to support ACI EUROPE’s advocacy and policy positions towards European institutions and regulators;
- Develop ACI EUROPE’s economic positions and provide economic and financial analysis to support other policy areas;
- Lead and develop the Economics team (2 direct reports), ensuring the delivery of high-quality economic and air connectivity analysis supporting the association’s strategic objectives.
Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes
Essential Qualities:
- Strong expertise in economic research and data analysis, ideally in a regulated industry.
- Minimum 10 years’ professional experience in economic policy and data analysis, including experience in consulting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Experience coordinating and facilitating committee meetings, workshops, and task forces.
- Experience in public speaking (speaker/panellist at conferences and events).
- Ability to build and maintain a strong network with EU and national stakeholders and engage effectively with policymakers on economic matters.
- Ability to produce high-quality economic and statistical analyses and translate them into clear policy insights supporting the development of ACI EUROPE’s positions and communications.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of programming or data analysis languages (SQL, R) is required.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Native-level English; other European languages are an asset.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Economics or a related field (required).
