Many associations offer excellent technical, professional or vocational education programmes appropriate to all levels of their membership and expertise. Increasingly, employers are seeking evidence of soft skills in their workforce - the ability to communicate; negotiate; work in a team; provide good customer service and at a higher level, manage teams and resolve conflict. What is driving the need for this type of education? The speaker will describe how soft skills training has been introduced into an extensive education portfolio and the impact it has made.

Richard has extensive senior management experience at membership services organisations from working at the Road Haulage Association (RHA) and the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT) . As membership services director at the Builders Merchant Federation (BMF) his task is to drive forward the wide ranging portfolio of services the BMF offer their members and be responsible for developing new commercial opportunities. The role also includes management of the training services which are a major part of the BMF's activities and also encompasses the responsibilities of Company Secretary.
