NALP launches free online training for landscape professionals
The National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) has announced the launch of a new initiative, offering free, comprehensive online training tailored specifically for its contractor members. This initiative, which aims to bolster industry professionalism, allows landscape professionals to acquire essential skills that could significantly enhance their work performance.
Accessible through the newly established NALP Learning Hub, the online training programme features an extensive range of on-demand courses that encompass both technical and business management areas. This resource is structured to cater to a diverse audience within the industry, accommodating employees across all levels, from entry-level crew members to senior management figures. Although the training courses are complimentary for NALP members, they are also available for purchase by non-members involved in landscape management.
Britt Wood, CEO of NALP, articulated the association's objective in providing this resource, stating, “Our goal is to provide landscape businesses with the tools they need to succeed, and this initiative is a game changer.” Wood emphasised that this training programme enables companies to onboard new hires more swiftly, cross-train existing employees efficiently, and enhance the skills of their management teams, thereby ensuring that businesses cultivate a knowledgeable workforce capable of thriving in the competitive landscape industry.
The online training offerings include 11 individual courses, as well as specialised training tracks which cover key areas such as:
-
Landscape Technician Training: Available in both English and Spanish, these three courses focus on essential safety protocols and technical skills pertinent to maintenance, installation, and irrigation.
-
Business Leadership Training: A comprehensive programme featuring eight courses dedicated to business management strategies.
-
Human Resources Training: A specific track comprising three courses concentrating on HR practices and regulations.
-
Operations Training: Encompassing three courses aimed at enhancing operational expertise for better on-ground management.
Each course is designed to take approximately two to three hours to complete and includes quizzes and certificates of completion. These assessments serve not only to verify the learning outcomes but also to enable employers to recognise and celebrate employees' achievements upon completion.
The NALP’s initiative signifies a proactive approach towards enhancing skill sets within the landscape profession, ensuring that both individuals and companies are better prepared to meet the challenges of the industry.
