ASTRA gears up for the Toy Fair 2024 in New York City
The American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA) is preparing for the much-anticipated Toy Fair, marking a return to this significant event in March 2024 after a previous shift from its traditional February schedule. The annual trade show, recognised for its role in showcasing the latest trends and innovations in the toy industry, will be held in New York City, with ASTRA's presence being prominent at Booth No. 5937.
At the Toy Fair, Sue Warfield, President of ASTRA, along with Special Projects and Events Manager Michael Foldeak, will engage with the association's members. They aim to introduce new member benefits and evaluate the latest product offerings while gaining insights into trends forecasted for 2025. Notably, Warfield highlighted a consumer survey commissioned by ASTRA, which gathered feedback from specialty shoppers to understand their preferences and shopping behaviours. These insights are expected to shape ASTRA's initiatives for the upcoming year.
ASTRA has laid out various goals for 2024, aiming to enhance its support for members. This includes a plan to expand the Certified Play Expert Program to certify more personnel within specialty retail. Additionally, the association is focused on increasing its online educational resources, making them accessible not only to members but also potentially to a broader audience.
Members can expect initiatives designed to assist in creating appealing product displays and assortments while also having opportunities to network through regional groups and virtual gatherings. Particularly exciting for the community is the inaugural voyage of the Toy Boat on March 17, which promises to facilitate shared ideas and camaraderie among participants. After-show gatherings at gift shows throughout the year are also on the agenda.
Acknowledging the challenges posed by the digital marketplace, ASTRA is determined to encourage shoppers to opt for local and small businesses, positioning these stores as viable alternatives to larger retailers. The association's resolve to support its members includes tackling any legislative issues that may hinder growth opportunities.
Looking ahead, ASTRA has plans for Toy Fair in February 2026 and 2027, with ideas for additional events such as a networking dinner party, cocktail hour, and a rejuvenation of the “Share the Fair” breakfast. The aim is to foster an engaging environment for the specialty toy community during their time in New York.
As the toy industry continues to evolve in response to consumer preferences, ASTRA is poised to support its members and adapt to the changing landscape while reinforcing the importance of in-person shopping experiences. The anticipation generated around 2025 showcases the resilience and enthusiastic spirit of ASTRA and its member community as they prepare for the Toy Fair and future initiatives.
