3t Drilling Systems and IADC to launch AI-powered KREW platform for safer well control training

3t Drilling Systems has been chosen by the IADC to redesign the KREW learning platform with AI-driven tools and offline access, aiming to transform well control training by combining simulators, e-learning, and instant feedback to enhance safety and efficiency across the industry.

3t Drilling Systems, a leader in advanced drilling simulation technology, has been designated as the official partner of the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) to completely redesign its flagship learning platform, KREW. This innovative partnership aspires to revolutionise workforce training within the global well control industry, with a clear emphasis on safety and efficiency.

The selection of 3t Drilling Systems for this project followed a rigorous competitive process, reflecting their stature in the industry. The newly developed KREW platform is set to feature hundreds of modern, interactive e-learning modules that can be accessed through both web browsers and mobile applications. Notably, the platform will also support offline capabilities, making it particularly beneficial for remote operations where continuous access to learning resources can be challenging.

Integral to the new KREW is a hybrid learning model that combines simulator training with an AI-powered chatbot. This feature not only allows users to engage with real-world scenarios but also provides instant feedback and knowledge testing, ensuring that learning is both dynamic and tailored to the evolving needs of the industry. Clive Battisby, COO at 3t Drilling Systems, highlighted the transformational potential of this platform, stating, “This isn’t just about upgrading a platform – it’s about elevating how our industry learns, globally.”

Brooke Polk, Vice President – Accreditation Operations at IADC, echoed this sentiment by asserting that the collaboration aims to empower learners through a modern, intelligent continuous learning framework designed to enhance knowledge retention and safety in the industry. The commitment to creating a comprehensive and innovative learning environment reflects a broader trend in the industry towards utilising technology to improve operational safety and efficiency.

Development of the platform is actively underway, with a scheduled relaunch for early 2026. In the interim, 3t Drilling Systems plans to release additional media assets to build anticipation around the revamped KREW platform. Aaron Bolch, Business Development Manager at the company, expressed pride in securing this partnership after extensive efforts, noting how the new platform would not only host valuable training resources but also empower the workforce involved in well control learning.

This initiative arrives at a crucial time for the industry, which is increasingly reliant on advanced technologies for training and operational excellence. 3t Drilling Systems has notably led the charge in this arena with their offerings such as iDrillSIM, a cloud-based simulator that meets IADC and IWCF standards. By incorporating realistic training scenarios and interactive control panels, the platform allows for an immersive learning experience that prepares professionals for various drilling operations.

Moreover, 3t Drilling Systems' DrillSIM:Academy enhances this educational approach by integrating theory with practical exercises through media-rich e-learning modules and graded simulations. These features enable trainers to create bespoke simulations tailored to specific needs, further enriching the training landscape. Such tools exemplify the industry's shift towards more flexible and scalable training solutions.

In a recent project, 3t Drilling Systems showcased its commitment to accessible training by launching a bespoke well control training lab at Western Texas College. This facility, equipped with cutting-edge simulation technology and taught by IADC-certified instructors, caters to both students and industry professionals, addressing the growing demand for skilled workers in the oil and gas sector.

As 3t Drilling Systems continues to lead efforts in modernising industry training, their collaboration with IADC reflects a larger paradigm shift towards innovative learning methodologies and the vital importance of safety and efficiency in the oil and gas field. With the new KREW platform on the horizon, the potential for significantly enhancing workforce capabilities and reducing operational downtime appears promising, setting a new standard for training in the well control industry.
