Holborn Community Association (HCA) has been at the heart of our community for over 35 years. We provide a lifetime offer of support, improving individual wellbeing and building connections and networks across the community. 2000 People engage with us each year through four core programmes - arts, care, movement and play. Across our three centres and through offsite community engagement activities, we create accessible, inclusive spaces which bring people of all types together.
About the role
Holborn Community Association is recruiting a Project Coordinator to lead our new People Shaping Place project. Starting in January 2026, the project is funded for 3 years - getting involved now offers the chance to shape the project itself and work with people to create a truly empowering, enriching project, making a difference to people’s lives.
The project will build a resident-led network of community support on the Bourne and Tybalds Estates (in Holborn & Covent Garden ward). The project focuses on estates experiencing high levels of deprivation and inequality, supporting residents to develop skills, confidence and ownership so they can shape, deliver and sustain community-led activities, events and campaigns.
We are seeking someone who:
- Can engage with the community in an open, accessible and inclusive way to understand their needs
- Has experience involving volunteers in ongoing, active participation in their community
- Is confident organising themselves and others
As the coordinator for our People Shaping Place project, you will play a key role in a three‑year resident‑led project focused on building volunteer capacity, facilitating community dialogue and supporting community‑designed projects and campaigns. This is a great opportunity to engage with the community and shape the direction of the project, and help HCA make a difference to people’s lives now and in the future.
Responsibilities
Main Responsibility:
- Community engagement
- Volunteer management, including recruitment, learning programme and ongoing support.
- Project delivery, including co-facilitation alongside community members and partners.
- Project management: partnership management, monitoring and evaluation, and budget management.
People:
- Lead recruitment and retention of volunteers to support activity delivery in accordance with HCA policies
- Lead and organise training and induction for volunteers
- Support and supervise volunteers on an ongoing basis through individual and group supervision
Project Development & Delivery:
- Consult with and involve users and wider community stakeholders in the design of the project across the community
- Ensure services are inclusive and accessible to all in the community
- Ensure user views and feedback on service delivery are incorporated into delivery plans
- Host and deliver projects for the community, focused on issues and specific demographics identified as most in need by the community itself
- Deliver estate-wide events supporting community campaigns on key issues identified by residents.
- Oversee programme delivery, ensuring work plans are in place and regularly reviewed and monitored
- Ensure that programme and project delivery meet contractual obligations (including preparation of reports)
- Ensure all programme delivery meets compliance standards with risk assessments in place and health and safety procedures followed.
Partnerships & Communication:
- Pursue ideas for new partnerships and projects for development across the organisation
- Maintain existing partnerships, particularly across the local community and with other stakeholders
- Develop and implementa communications and marketing strategy for the project
Finance:
- In collaboration with the Community Development Manager, monitor and review budgets for the People Shaping Place project.
General:
- Be flexible in the provision of the programme on a day-to-day basis,
- Attend internal and external meetings relevant to the programme and to represent HCA when required.

- Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably required by the evolving nature of the work
Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes
Knowledge & Qualifications:
- Understanding of the voluntary & community sector and resident-led projects
- Understanding and experience of working with diverse communities, including children, young people and older people
- Understanding of community development, resident empowerment and participatory practice
- Understanding of the principles and practice of safeguarding
Experience:
- Experience of working within the community, voluntary or statutory sectors
- Experience of working with volunteers to empower and develop skills, confidence and learning
- Experience in project planning and delivery
- Experience of successful partnership working
- Experience of working in a small team
Skills:

Required Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent professional qualification and experience in a relevant field of management
Compensation & Benefits
- Holidays: 25 days + 8 days Bank Holidays
- Pension: HCA is part of the employer pension scheme administered by NEST
- Probation: 6 months
- Notice: 3 months.
