About the Organisation

ECOS is an international NGO with a network of members and experts advocating for environmentally friendly technical standards, policies and laws. We ensure the environmental voice is heard when they are developed and drive change by providing expertise to policymakers and industry players, leading to the implementation of strong environmental principles. ECOS is headquartered in Brussels with a regional office in Nairobi and has an exceptional team of 35+ staff supported by a network of over 50 technical experts and almost 60 member organisations.

About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated Programme Manager to join our Programme Department team to work on industry decarbonisation, with a special focus on the petrochemical industry. The successful candidate will report to the Head of the Buildings & Industry team.

Responsibilities

Policy & Standards:

  • Shape and implement advocacy strategies to obtain ambitious policies and standards that contribute to the decarbonisation (defossilisation) of industry, with a special focus on the petrochemical one.
  • Support the team's advocacy efforts towards this goal;
  • Produce impactful materials and strategies in response to targets and opportunities;
  • Represent ECOS in relevant meetings, such as meetings of European institutions, standardisation organisations (CEN, ISO), international fora and campaigns, workshops, and conferences;
  • Select, manage, and oversee technical experts to assist our work.

Portfolio Development & Fundraising:

  • Proactively lead on creating new funding opportunities and smooth management of relationships with funders;
  • Ensure sound project management: proposal writing, monitoring of implementation and timely reporting;
  • Raise ECOS profile at national, regional and international levels, and notably towards standardisation organisations, European institutions, UN fora, etc.

Engagement with ECOS Networks:

  • Create impactful communications content for ECOS, including articles, opinion pieces, and publications, in cooperation with the Communications Department;
  • Ensure effective involvement of members and experts in ECOS activities;
  • Actively strengthen cooperation with ECOS networks, including member organisations, potential new members, policymakers, campaigns, and any other relevant stakeholders.

Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Minimum three years of relevant professional experience, preferably with NGOs, think tanks, institutions, consultancies, or companies working in the environmental field, or in the petrochemical industry;
  • A basic knowledge of economics, engineering, chemistry, and the eagerness to understand more;
  • Experience in fundraising and managing relationships with funders is a plus.
  • Commitment to the values, vision and mission of ECOS;
  • Excellent advocacy and negotiation skills;
  • Strong analytical skills & ability to translate technical content into accessible information;
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team;
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, as well as strong networking abilities.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English; other languages are an asset.

Required Qualifications

  • A degree in natural sciences (esp. chemistry or physics) or engineering is a plus
