Southall Community Alliance (SCA) is a charity that has been working in Southall for over 30 years.

About the role

We seek an enthusiastic and experienced Operations & Capacity Building Manager to oversee the project work of our charity over the next two years. We are looking for a candidate with excellent interpersonal skills, community engagement, and fundraising experience, and the confidence to manage and deliver projects that will extend our work and enhance local networks. You will report to the SCA Director and be part of the growing SCA staff team. 

Responsibilities

  • Managing the delivery of SCA’s funded projects and project-related staff
  • Community outreach and engagement with a diverse range of residents and stakeholders
  • Work with adults and young people to arrange training on the community
  • campaigning, capacity building and equality issues
  • Promoting work on social media or a website to share good practice and case studies
  • Arranging arts and creative activities to engage young people
  • Prepare publicity to promote awareness of activities arranged in partnership with statutory and community-based partners
  • Preparing agendas, minutes and other relevant materials relating to SCA projects
  • Supporting the recruitment and supervision of volunteers
  • Provide support for preparing monitoring, performance and evaluation reports relating to project activities
  • Identify and apply for funding opportunities to sustain SCA projects and core work
  • To ensure inclusion and diversity in all aspects of SCA’s operation and work
  • To report to the SCA Board of Trustees and advisory boards, as required
  • To undertake other such duties as may be assigned by the SCA Director from time to time

Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes

Essential Criteria:

  • At least two years of experience working with organisations and with people from disadvantaged communities
  • Ability to engage effectively with a range of partners and stakeholders through outreach activities
  • Project management skills and ability to plan, implement and monitor projects and finances, whilst working towards deadlines
  • Experience of applying for and securing grant funding and resources to support operational delivery
  • Experience in arranging and delivering capacity building activities and training for organisations and individuals
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills, active listening, presentation, negotiation, and influencing skills for varied audiences (leaders, partners, community).
  • Experience of using social media, updating websites and compiling digital newsletters/bulletins
  • Strong at stakeholder management – working with statutory partners, funders and community organisations.
  • Proficient in the use of databases and Microsoft Office packages: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and digital tools like Canva.
  • Experience in drafting, presenting reports and designing and producing publicity materials.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage competing demands, and work flexibly (evenings/weekends).

Desirable Criteria:

  • Ability to recruit, train and supervise volunteers
  • Understanding of GDPR and other regulatory compliance issues that affect data management
  • Knowledge of a community language would be desirable 

Compensation & Benefits

  • 25 days of annual leave
  • 3-month probation period
