About the Organisation
EACR is an international scientific membership organisation supporting cancer researchers through conferences, funding schemes and community-building. Following a recent consultancy review, the organisation is now ready to appoint its first dedicated Fundraising Manager to establish and grow its income-generation activity.
About the role
By joining us in this new role, you will lead the organisation’s trusts, foundations, and corporate fundraising activity. Sitting on the Management Team, you will contribute to organisational strategy, help shape priorities, and collaborate closely with colleagues across scientific programmes, communications, operations, and membership. Building on the opportunity analysis and prospect lists developed through our recent consultancy work, you will take forward actionable plans, develop relationships with potential funders, produce high-quality proposals, and help us refine and grow our fundraising approach.
You will work particularly closely with our Corporate Engagement Manager, who supports the delivery of corporate partnerships activity. This is a pivotal role with the opportunity to develop and own the fundraising function.
Responsibilities
Trusts and Foundations (40%)
Using the 2025 consultancy prospect list as a starting point, prioritise and realise opportunities for the EACR to generate new income from trusts and foundations:
- Develop tailored proposals and cases for support based on identified opportunities
- Build relationships with funders identified in the report
- Manage pipeline progression, deadlines, and reporting requirements
- Ensure accurate stewardship and timely funder updates
- Refine the prospect list based on fit, likelihood, and strategic value
- Maintain records of progress via HubSpot (in the first instance)
Corporates (30%)
Using the 2025 consultancy prospect list as a starting point, and working closely with the Corporate Engagement Manager, develop and implement a corporate fundraising plan:
- Develop compelling new partnership propositions and materials
- Support cultivation meetings and follow-ups
- Ensure commitments to partners are delivered effectively
- Provide insights on which corporate segments offer the greatest potential
Reporting and Monitoring (10%)
- Track KPIs, income forecasts, and progress
- Provide concise monthly updates to the CEO
- Identify areas for future investment and development
- Support Board and Committee reporting
Internal Collaboration (5%)
- Work with department heads to identify and understand fundable projects
- Coordinate closely with the Communications and Marketing Manager to align messages and materials
- Support impact reporting
- Share fundraising insights and learnings with the wider team
- Work closely with the Corporate Engagement Manager
Strategic Leadership (10%)
- Be an active member of the EACR’s Management Team, which provides a space for the senior staff to develop plans and to share priorities and challenges. Work together to support effective delivery of the EACR’s operational plan and to ensure coordination, clarity, and collective problem-solving across the staff team.
- Provide strategic oversight of the fundraising pipeline, forecasting, and income planning.
- Ensure fundraising activity aligns with organisational goals and impacts.
Other (5%)
- Deputise for the Chief Executive Officer as requested in her absence
- Attend EACR meetings as the EACR representative, as required
- Any other duties appropriate to the job level and as required by the Chief Executive Officer
Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes
- Demonstrable experience of success in securing income from trusts and foundations.
- Strong proposal writing and relationship-building skills.
- Understanding of corporate fundraising or partnership development.
- Ability to think strategically while delivering operationally.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Confidence working with senior stakeholders and representing the organisation externally.
- A willingness and ability to work outside normal hours and to travel internationally.
- Experience leading or shaping fundraising functions in small or growing organisations.
- A fundraising qualification, such as the Chartered Institute of Fundraising’s Certificate or Diploma.
