About the role

Are you motivated to play an active part in Europe’s clean energy transition? smartEn is recruiting an EU Projects Manager to support smartEn's engagement in (existing and new) EU-funded projects. We are the European business association of the Flexible Demand Management Industry, representing over 100 companies offering innovative solutions to transform consumers from passive to active energy players and contribute to the cost-effective decarbonisation by unleashing their demand-side flexibility.

A few years ago, we started our involvement in EU-funded projects, and the growing importance of this workstream requires expanded professional support. Reporting to the smartEn Executive Director, the position will manage the execution of smartEn projects, particularly those financed under Horizon Europe, LIFE, and CEF Digital.

Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities:

  • Monitor upcoming EU-funded call-for-tenders and identify opportunities for smartEn and its members that need to be highlighted during dedicated EU projects workshops twice per year.
  • Lead the drafting of EU project proposals, in cooperation with project coordinators.
  • Manage financial reporting and budget allocations together with our accountants and relevant team members.
  • Manage financial and administrative reporting toward the EU Commission.
  • Coordinate and contribute to all relevant deliverables related to EU projects smartEn is part of, in cooperation with team members and consortium partners. Update and manage the EU projects management tools, Gantt chart, Excel reporting, mural links.
  • Represent smartEn during EU projects consortia meetings, both prospective and existing.
  • Manage a Junior EU Projects Officer.

Skills, Competencies, Experience & Attributes

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • At least 4 years of relevant professional experience in EU-funded projects, ideally in a European business organisation or in the private sector.
  • Understanding of the energy sector is mandatory, and electricity markets and the role of active consumers are a plus.
  • Excellent EU project management skills, including organisational and time-management skills.
  • Analytical, attentive to details, curious, pragmatic, and flexible attitude.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required; other European languages are an asset.
  • High motivation in playing an active part in the clean and digital transition.

Required Qualifications

  • A university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in European studies, law, energy economics, engineering, and similar.

Conditions of employment

Working locations

  • Hybrid model, working in the Brussels office and remotely
