Attracting Young Talents to a “Sunset” Industry Through Comprehensive Discovery
Rosman Hamzah, Malaysian Gas Association (MGA)

To the increasingly environmentally conscious younger generation, it is their believe that renewables should take over the role of fossil fuel in providing energy for the world’s population. The generation regards oil & gas as a sunset industry with many preferring to join the renewable energy industry upon graduation. As the nation’s lead advocate for the natural gas industry, it is the duty of Malaysian Gas Association (MGA) to ensure continuous pipeline of quality talents to the industry. To attract the younger generation, MGA organises its unique annual flagship student outreach called Program on Energy Sustainability & Transition and Insights to Graduate Engineers (PRESTIGE). It’s a 3-day residential program where university students are exposed to various aspects of life as an engineer by experts in the respective fields. The program also provided opportunity for students to interact up-close with leaders from the industry. The program is typically rated highly by the participants.
